YAS, girl. Amy Duggar tweeted her support for Pride Month on June 15, and her fans were super stoked about it. The tweet was sprinkled with rainbows and same-sex emojis holding hands, which sent an important message about Amy’s views on love and acceptance, despite the Duggar family’s conservative religious beliefs. Amy’s fans expressed their excitement as she took to such a public platform in support of Pride. “Beautifully said. It’s wonderful having Christians in the public eye who show God’s real message: love and acceptance,” one person tweeted.

Another actually used this as an opportunity to throw shade at Amy’s extended family member Derick Dillard. “Thank you, Amy. Can you please share this with your relatives? It’s hurtful when Derick is so vocal about his dislike of my loved ones!”

Derick most recently made headlines when he shared one of his controversial, homophobic opinions on social media. The former Counting On star supported the Supreme Court for ruling in favor of a Colorado baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a gay couple because of his religious beliefs.

“Today’s 7-2 Supreme Court decision is a huge victory for religious freedom,” Derick tweeted. “Government cannot and should not discriminate against religious faith; it is a constitutional right.”

Derick’s opinions weren’t exactly surprising, though. In August 2017, Derick made transphobic comments toward trans girl Jazz Jennings — the star of TLC’s hit reality show, I Am Jazz. “What an oxymoron… a ‘reality’ show which follows a non-reality,” he tweeted. “‘Transgender’ is a myth. Gender is not fluid; it’s ordained by God.”

The tweet stirred up an incredible amount of backlash, and was ultimately what ended his running on the Duggar family’s spin-off show, Counting On. After all of this, it’s refreshing to see Amy voice her opinions no matter how different they might be from her famous cousins.
