‘A Star Is Born’: Here’s Everything Fans of the Film Should Look Out for at the Oscars
It was one of the hottest films of 2018, and now it’s the one to watch for the 2019 Oscars! A Star Is Born will be honored with several nominations and a killer performance by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper at the Academy Awards on February 24, and we have all the info you need about the big night right here!
What Is ‘A Star Is Born’ Nominated For?
A Star Is Born is one of the most nominated movies of the evening with a whopping seven nods. The remake is up for Best Picture, Best Actor (Bradley Cooper), Best Actress (Lady Gaga), Best Supporting Actor (Sam Elliott), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Sound Mixing. The hit “Shallow” from the film, which has been taking over the airwaves on the radio since the film’s release, is also nominated for Best Original Song.
Was ‘A Star Is Born’ Snubbed?
It’s hard to think of the film as being snubbed when it has eight nominations, but that’s not how Bradley, 44, felt. He was expecting to be nominated for Best Director, as he already had been at the Golden Globes, but he didn’t get the nod.
“I went, ‘Oh wow,’ and the first thing I felt was embarrassment, actually felt embarrassed that I didn’t do my part,” he said in an interview with OK Magazine after learning the news. “I was with my friend. I was in New York City at a coffee shop and I looked down at my phone and Nicole [his publicist] had texted me and they said congratulations on these other things, but they didn’t tell me the bad news.”
Luckily he had the full support of his co-star. “Well, you know, you never know what’s going to happen,” Gaga told the Los Angeles Times. “But at the end of the day, he knows that he’s the best director in my eyes, and in all of our eyes as his cast. I know that he’s so happy that we’ve all been nominated and that the film was recognized and we all feel really, really beyond elated for the recognition.” How touching.
What Can We Expect From Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s Oscar Performance?
Lady Gaga and Brad have already performed their ASIB duet “Shallow” live once before, but never at an awards show! We can’t wait to see what they’re wearing and hear how amazing they sound, but Bradley is definitely feeling a little nervous. Long before he was even asked to perform, he was stressing about it.
“We talked about that actually, because I’m such a maniac,” he admitted to Variety back in November 2018. “I started texting her the whole pitch of how we should do it. So we’ll see. There might be a cool, unorthodox way we could perform it.” We can’t wait to see what they came up with!
Who Will Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper Bring With Them?
One thing’s for sure; Lady Gaga won’t be bringing former fiancé Christian Carino! After Christian (and her massive engagement ring!) were noticeably missing at the Grammy Awards, Gaga confirmed that she and her boo decided to end things. It’s unclear if Bradley will be bringing his girlfriend and baby mama Irina Shayk on the big day, but either way, we’re sure the crooners can rely on each other to crack a joke around the dinner table!
