’90DF’ Alum Ashley Martson Shares Insight on Juliana Custodio’s ‘Prostitute’ Question: ‘They Ask Everyone’

Part of the process? 90 Day Fiancé alum Ashley Smith (née Martson) took to Instagram over the weekend to share some insight about a controversial scene on the show which aired on Sunday, November 10, where fellow 90DF star Juliana Custodio was asked if she was a prostitute while trying to obtain a K-1 visa.

The awkward conversation goes down after Juliana’s much older beau, Michael Jessen, 42, flies to Rio de Janeiro to be with Juliana, 23, for the interview needed to get the visa.

After seeing the couple’s reaction to the inquiry and the commotion online from fans, Ashley, 33, posted a message on her Instagram Stories to clear the air about the procedure. “They ask everyone if you are a prostitute or are you coming to the United States just to be one … just saying,” she wrote while adding a photo from the scene.

During the latest episode, Michael was put in the hot seat about his blossoming romance with the Brazilian model. As viewers may recall, the couple sparked a connection after meeting at a yacht party in Croatia (at the time she was only 20).

The wealthy wine entrepreneur tried to maintain his composure during the interview, but he was livid and shocked when they asked if she had worked as a prostitute at all in the last decade. Juliana said absolutely not and later talked about the “stupid” questions they were asked, clearly referring to that one in particular.

“So, what does that make me, a pimp?” he fired back. “No, she’s not a prostitute.”

Juliana ended up being denied the K-1 visa, so Michael said that he was planning on consulting his immigration lawyer to see what the best next step would be. “There didn’t seem to be much due process,” Michael continued.

“She’s a young single girl from a very poor part of Brazil. She has a lot of stamps in her passport and there’s a concern that her plans for coming into America are to come here and potentially be involved in illicit activities,” he added.

After the conversation, Juliana hinted that she’s open to living in other places in the world, but that wouldn’t be as easy of a decision for Michael, considering that he’s a father of two young kids — Max and Cece — from a past relationship. 

Meanwhile, Ashley also just took to Instagram with an update about her own love life. The TLC alum confirmed that she’s single after her split from Jay Smith, and is now just doing what makes her “happy.”
