The first season of This Is Us may have come to an end — but we’re finally getting the answers fans are looking for!

Of course, there are a few things we do know about Jack’s death — if you aren’t caught up, you may want to stop reading now!

First of all, we know that Jack’s death occurred sometime when the Big 3 (Kate aka Chrissy Metz, Kevin aka Justin Hartley, and Randall aka Sterling K. Brown) were teenagers; not only is he totally absent from their adult lives, but we also caught glimpse of their teenage selves at his funeral.

Additionally, we know that Kate took his death the hardest — at one point even telling her fiancé, Toby, that she’s “the reason he’s dead.”

Beyond that, however, fans are still in the dark; the cast recently gathered at a PaleyFest panel and confirmed that Kate isn’t directly responsible for her father’s death — meaning, she didn’t kill him, accidentally or otherwise — but didn’t reveal much else.

One popular theory is that Jack dies in a plane crash — with fans pointing to Kevin’s decision to abandon his toy planes and Kate’s fear of flying as possible hints to his demise (it’s worth noting, there was a real-life plane crash that happened outside of Pittsburgh in 1994 — around the same time of Jack’s fictional death — that killed everyone aboard).
