He’s still locked up. Tekashi69 is currently in prison, meaning he’ll be spending his 23rd birthday behind bars today, May 8. The rapper (a.k.a 6ix9ine — or his legal name, Daniel Hernandez) was arrested on racketeering and firearms charges along with other members of his crew back in November, so what’s the latest info? We’ve got you covered.

Tekashi was previously indicted on six counts: including conspiracy with others to commit racketeering, discharging a firearm while committing a crime, committing a crime of violence in aid of racketeering, assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm and committing a crime in aid of racketeering. Furthermore, he’s reportedly facing anywhere from 47 years to life in prison.

Back in February 2019, the “FEFE” lyricist entered a guilty plea in the case. He now remains in custody as he awaits trial, which reportedly won’t take place until September 2019. Looking ahead, Tekashi’s attorney hopes the other men strike plea deals so the trial is called off. If that happens, they’ll ask a judge to grant him time served and if it’s approved, this would be big. 6ix9ine could walk free because he’s “fulfilled his obligations under his cooperation agreement with authorities.”

On January 7, Tekashi’s girlfriend, Jade, paid him a visit in prison and shared the first photo of the rapper behind bars. “He’s good luv, enjoy #FreeDanny,” she captioned the social media snap, showing him grabbing her butt while she leaned in for a kiss. Jade has continued to show the chart-topping artist support, even debuting new tattoos inspired by her love in April 2019.
