She’s his strength! Even though Teen Mom OG star Catelynn Lowell is currently pregnant and expecting baby No. 3 with her husband Tyler Baltierra, their journey to this point has been extremely hard. Cate and Ty’s third child is their rainbow baby after they suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage, and Cate sought treatment in rehab to deal with the trauma from that experience. But now, Tyler is opening up about how he struggled during that time too, and he revealed that their three-year-old daughter Nova helped him stay strong.

“From a guy’s perspective — and not to sound sexist or anything, but I feel like it’s almost more acceptable in a way for women to break down and be emotional but I swear, as a man, when I walked away from Cate and I didn’t have to be so strong in that moment, I was breaking down every single day,” the 26-year-old said during an interview on the Reality Life with Kate Casey podcast. “Dropping Nova off at school, because Cate was in treatment, and I was taking her to school and just crying every day. Every single day.”

But Tyler went on to explain that Nova was all the motivation he needed to stay strong and keep going.

“Honestly, it was Nova. Just seeing Nova and realizing that I can’t sit here, I don’t have the freedom or ability to sit here and sulk in my pity. I gotta be strong, I have to engage with my daughter, I gotta play with her still and laugh with her, take her to the park,” he continued. “You know, I still have a job to do in raising her around the happiest environment I can make for her. So I just kind of felt that she was my motivation to keep strong and saying, ‘You know what? I did lose this child, but look at this beautiful child I got now.’ She just kind of helped me to push myself forward and keep going.”

Tyler said during that time, he would take care of his responsibilities as a dad and after he would put Nova to bed, he would go into his room and cry. But Ty said that he doesn’t think parents should hide their emotions from their kids because it’s important to show them that it’s okay to cry, but he also knew that Nova was also going through a difficult time because of the separation from Cate.

“I knew she was going through her own stuff and she’s a child so she can’t display to me, ‘OMG I’m feeling really depressed or sad cause mom’s not here,’ so I knew she was going through enough that she didn’t need another parent to be broken down,” Ty continued. “She needs a strong one and a resilient one.”
