Sarah Hyland Reveals Her Cousin Was Killed By Drunk Driver: ‘I Hope To God He Spends The Rest Of His Life In Prison’
This is so sad. Sarah Hyland opened up to her fans on Instagram about some devastating family news she learned on Dec. 2: her 14-year-old cousin was killed by a drunk driver and her uncle is still in the hospital following the accident.
She wrote, “This is my 14-year-old cousin Trevor. Yesterday, he was killed by a drunk driver. My uncle is still in the hospital in need of more surgeries. PLEASE swipe up to help.” She also provided a link to his GoFundMe page. At first, she identified the driver as “Jeffery Eggerling,” when his actual name is “Jeffrey Eggeling.” She then continued to give more details as to what exactly happened to her cousin on social media.
“Jeffery Eggerling took a 14-year-old boy’s life. Jeffery Eggerling hit my Uncle’s Car so fast my cousin (who was wearing a seatbelt) was ejected from the car. Jeffery Eggerling has two prior DUI’s. He also tried to RUN from the scene of the crime. Jeffery Eggerling is under arrest and I hope to God he spends the rest of his life in prison,” she wrote. She encouraged her six million followers to donate and provided them with a link.
Luckily, the actress can rely on her close friends and co-stars, Ariel Winter and Nolan Gould, who shared the GoFundMe link on their Instagram stories as well. The 28-year-old was appreciative of the support, as she wrote “love you” to Ariel and “thank you” to Nolan. Of course, her boyfriend, Wells Adams, also made sure to support his girlfriend by posting on social media too.
Wells and Sarah just got back from a romantic vacation in Mexico together, where the couple shared several videos and photos of their trip. On the Modern Family star’s birthday, Wells couldn’t help but gush about his love of over a year on Instagram.
He wrote, “It’s that can’t-eat, can’t-sleep, reach-for-the-stars, over-the-fence, World Series kind of stuff. Happy birthday @sarahhyland! You’re perfect and I love you most. Now, pack your bags, cus baby, we’re jumping on a plane and heading down to the islands tomorrow!”
