Mary-Kate and Ashley Started Acting 30 Years Ago, and Now We Feel Ancient AF
We have fond memories of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen during their '90s heyday, from straight-to-video movies like Passport to Paris to even their weirdly successful Walmart clothing line. But these days, as the sisters move away from their tween image into eccentric high-brow couture, we can't help but realize how much time has passed between Two of a Kind and their baffling look at the 2017 Met Gala. In fact, once you see how long it's been since the twins' most iconic moments, you'll probably start to feel pretty old yourself.
In case you're wondering why the Olsens have changed so much over the years, it's important to note that the famous sisters have hinted in the past that their upbringing was challenging. "[We were] little monkey performers," Mary-Kate admitted to Marie Claire in 2010. "I look at old photos of me, and I don't feel connected to them at all. I would never wish my upbringing on anyone." We know what you're thinking, "What kid wouldn't enjoy dressing up in a trench coat while filming The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley?"
But don't feel too let down. Ashley has said nothing but positive things about her acting days. “I am so proud of what we did," she told Vogue in 2011. "We made kids smile every day. But we had done the most we could do.” These days, the twins are busy running their fashion lines that cater to a clientele that's much older than their original fanbase, but we guess it's only natural for the girls to grow up and move on. In fact, after looking back at our favorite Olsen twin moments, we realized we're getting rather old ourselves. Below, 13 facts about the Olsens that might leave you feeling like you need an AARP membership.
