Ouch! Miley Cyrus revealed she suffered a brain injury when she was a toddler during a dirt bike accident with dad Billy Ray Cyrus during an interview with Joe Rogan.

“I had a head injury when I was, you know, 2 years old,” Miley, 27, explained on the September 2 episode of the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast. “My dad had me — this is really bad, but he can’t go to jail, I think, ‘cause it’s long enough time away. He had me in a baby backpack, and I was on a dirt bike with my dad. And he was riding and a tree had fallen, and he ducked, and I didn’t, and I hit my head on the tree.”

She joked that she’s given Billy Ray, 59, the award for “worst dad ever,” but revealed that she mostly turned out OK. However, she did theorize that the injury affected her personality — and she said she got a brain scan as an adult while working with a new doctor. Dr. Daniel Amen founded Amen Clinics, and they use a brain imaging diagnostic tool called SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) to help treat their patients. Similar to how a professional athlete has different health concerns than your average person, Miley said she leads an abnormal life both as a performer and as someone who’s experiment with a lot of different drugs, which means she has to be more careful when it comes to things like her diet and medications.

She believes her life experiences have made her “tough” — though she said some of her exes have called her “cold” instead, seemingly referencing ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, ex-girlfriend and The Hills star Kaitlynn Carter and ex-boyfriend Cody Simpson. She didn’t agree, but admitted she’s less emotional now than she was when she was younger. The “Slide Away” singer also said that when she’s done with a relationship, she’s done, and she’s not going to spend her energy on it.

Instead, she’s excited to be single for the first time in roughly five years — since she and Liam, 30, first got back together in 2015. She started dating Kaitlynn, 31, the same month her split from Liam was confirmed in August 2019. They broke up in September, and Miley moved on with Cody, 23, just a few weeks later. When the Hannah Montana alum took the VMAs stage on August 30, two weeks after calling it quits with the Australian singer, it was her first time doing so as a single woman.

She rocked the performance of her latest single, which reflects on her divorce from ex-husband Liam. “I was born to run, I don’t belong to anyone,” she sings on the track. “I don’t need to be loved by you (By you) / Fire in my lungs, can’t bite the devil on my tongue, you know / I don’t need to be loved by you.”

It’s clear that everything Miley’s been through has made her the person and artist she is today.
