She’s actually real! 90 Day Fiancé were shook after watching last night’s episode because it seemed like after five seasons and three spin-offs, TLC might finally have its first catfish on the show. Fans were almost convinced that 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days star Ricky‘s Colombian girlfriend Melissa was really a catfish because all of the signs were pointing to it. But after making Ricky wait more than two hours for her at a restaurant in Colombia, Melissa really did show up and she looked exactly like she did in her photos.

Melissa explained that she was late because she had plans earlier that day. She also revealed that she had not responded to Ricky’s text messages in the days leading up to his arrival in Colombia because “he’s a lot,” so she kept her distance from him. But she seemed to feel comfortable after meeting him, and she opened up about her first impression of Ricky.

“He’s the first American I’ve known. There’s a lot that I like about him. I feel satisfied,” she said, but she also was honest about where she think their relationship is headed. “It’s very complicated, so let’s see what happens.”

In Ricky’s intro earlier this season, the 33-year-old photographer and videographer from Columbus said that he’s had “bad luck” with relationships in the past, and he has been married twice and is also a father to two children. But that didn’t stop Ricky from continuing to look for love — and he thinks he found it online with Melissa.

But Ricky’s friends weren’t so convinced and they raised a few red flags about this new relationship: Ricky is not technically divorced yet from his second wife, Ricky had been sending Melissa money every week even though she told him she works as a nurse, and Melissa had not responded to him when they FaceTime or Skype which is one of the oldest tricks in the catfish book.

For fans who also follow the MTV series Catfish, hosts Nev Schulman and Max Joseph often point out that if someone is a catfish (a person who pretends to be someone else on the internet and hooks unsuspecting strangers into online relationships) then they wouldn’t want to video chat because they would be immediately caught. But if the catfish doesn’t agree to speak on the phone or does agree to video chat and they don’t speak, that is almost always a sign that they are not the gender that they say they are.

But Ricky was too smitten with Melissa to listen to his friends, and it turns out he was right about Melissa all along. Ricky was so confident in their relationship that he bought an engagement ring because he was hoping to propose to Melissa at some point during his trip.

“I’m traveling halfway across the globe to meet a woman that I met online. Yes, it is crazy,” Ricky admitted. “But this could be the love of my life.” Fans are going to have to tune in to the rest of the season to find out how this story ends up.

90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on TLC.
