Rapper Mac Miller is reportedly dead on Sept. 7 after an apparent overdose. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to an emergency call from his Studio City home on September 7, 2018 at 11:42am. The LAPD confirmed to Radar they pronounced him dead when they got there.

The 26-year-old performer has seemingly been struggling following his split from longtime girlfriend Ariana Grande in May. The same month, he smashed his G-Wagon into a telephone pole and was charged with a DUI and fleeing the scene. Ari had expressed concern for her ex after his accident, tweeting, “Pls take care of yourself.” In 2013, Mac revealed that he had become addicted to “lean,” a combination of strong cough medicine and soda.

Mac seemed more positive, though, while talking to Zane Lowe recently. “I made a stupid mistake,” he said on July 23. “I’m a human being. Like, [I] drove home drunk. But it was the best thing that could have happened. I needed that. I needed to run into that light pole and literally, like, have the whole thing stop.”

Just one night before the tragedy, Mac seemed genuinely excited for the future and his tour, tweeting that he “wished it started tomorrow.”

Friends of the rapper immediately took to social media to express their shock and pain. “I was just talking to u last night… We were supposed to shoot the conversation video on Wednesday. I love you, thank you for changing my life. RIP @MacMiller,” wrote Cole Bennett. Chance The Rapper said, ” dont know what to say. Mac Miller took me on my second tour ever. But beyond helping me launch my career he was one of the sweetest guys I ever knew. Great man. I loved him for real. I’m completely broken. God bless him.” Khalid said, “this hurts my heart man RIP bro @MacMiller.”

Our hearts go out to his friends and family in this devastating time.
