Counting On’s Jill Duggar Responds to Fans’ Concerns About Her Husband: ‘Is Derick Healthy?’
Is everything OK with Derick Dillard? Jill Dillard (née Duggar) addressed fans’ concerns about his health after they worried the Counting On alum wasn’t feeling well. When the Duggar daughter posted a new photo of her husband and son during their first week back at school — Derick in law school and Israel in Kindergarten — some thought the father of two looked like he’d lost weight.
“Pure curiosity, zero disrespect. Is Derick healthy?” one fan asked in the comments of the post. They noted that Derick, 31, was looking “very thin” in the photo. While some insisted the reality star has always been skinny, Jill, 29, didn’t take any offense. She simply answered, “Yes. He’s just slender and has that long-distance runner/swimmer build and metabolism.”
This isn’t the first time fans have worried the former 19 Kids and Counting star looked ill. In 2017, he answered a similar question on Twitter. He’s also been open about his health issues in the past. Back when he and his wife were still on their family’s TLC show, they documented his issues with gagging when he went for runs. It was a problem he’d been dealing with since his teen years, and he hadn’t yet managed to get to the bottom of the medical mystery.
On the series, Derick visited an allergist, who helped the star realize he had sensitives with things like milk and some plants and trees. However, the issue wasn’t fully resolved — and Jill let fans know in March 2019 that they “still haven’t figured out the gagging issue.” When she and her husband celebrated his 30th birthday, they went out for a run, which led to fans wondering how exercising was going for the dad. Though running still triggers the same response, they did discover that drinking carbonated water after meals “helps a little.”
Other than that, the family seems to be doing well, and they even hinted we may see them back on screen one day. In the past, Derick said there was “no chance” that he and his wife would ever return to filming, but he seemed to change his tune. After a fan said they would love to see the couple back on Counting On, he replied, “Maybe we will be someday.”
