It’s only been three months since Granger Smith’s youngest son, River, tragically passed away at just three years old in a drowning accident, but the singer’s wife, Amber Smith, got candid about how her kids are coping with the pain.

“One of the many things I’m so thankful for in this process is how our kiddos are handling everything,” she captioned two drawings on Instagram on Monday, September 23. “They both are creating, and their pictures are of them smiling and happy. Even in our darkest hour, they are creating happy pictures. Not that it would be bad if they were frowning or crying in the art, because it’s OK to be sad, we are all sad. But it makes my heart happy that they are creating happy photos, happy memories with River.”

One of the many things I’m so thankful for in this process is how our kiddos are handling everything. They both are creating, and their pictures are of them smiling and happy. Even in our darkest hour, they are creating happy pictures. Not that it would be bad if they were frowning or crying in the art, because it’s ok to be sad, we are all sad. But it makes my heart happy that they are creating happy photos, happy memories with River. The first one is Lincoln’s. I saw it on his desk yesterday and he said it was he and River holding hands smiling. The second is London’s and it’s our family below smiling and River in heaven under a rainbow. Thanking God for these little bits of happy through the tears ❤️🙏🏼 🖍

The blonde beauty, 37, continued to explain her children’s drawings in her lengthy message. “The first one is Lincoln’s. I saw it on his desk yesterday, and he said it was he and River holding hands, smiling. The second is London’s, and it’s our family below smiling, and River in heaven under a rainbow. Thanking God for these little bits of happy through the tears.”

Of course, fans couldn’t help but comment on the sweet post. One person wrote, “God will continue to get you through the storms. Continued prayers for you and your family,” while another echoed, “So many prayers most of us can’t even begin to imagine the pain and tears. So thankful for sweet children who see things in the most beautiful way.” A third person chimed in, writing, “Because you are giving them the strength. You’re an amazing momma.”

The Texas native — who shares two kids: London, 7, and Lincoln, 5, with the country star — and Granger, 40, have been vocal about their struggle ever since the incident. Recently, the “Backroad Song” crooner discussed how he was feeling on social media. “I haven’t said much on socials lately. It’s not that I don’t have anything to say, it’s more that most things just don’t seem important enough to share,” he wrote on September 15. “We all know that social media has become a mask … a highlight reel, per say, that we can hide behind and appear to promote our best moments of our best days. Eh … that stuff doesn’t matter.”

Granger also praised his wife for being so vocal on the internet. “Amber has continued to post on her socials, and I’m blown away by her ability to be so real, raw and engaging in her captions and pictures,” he said. “Once upon a time, I had the way with words in our relationship, but now I’m letting her speak for us both. We certainly see the world with our masks off now.”

Granger ended the message on a positive note, writing, “All that said, know this: Life is a storm. Realizing that makes it easier to be grateful for the rays of sunshine.”
