Country singer Granger Smith and his wife, Amber, are trying to move on following their son River’s tragic death, but it hasn’t been easy for the couple.

The blonde beauty wrote a loving message to her 3-year-old son on Instagram on Sunday, June 23, after their family visited the Field Museum in Chicago. “We just happened to be in the same city as the ‘biiiigggggggest T-Rex’ ever found. We had to make a trip to see it in honor of River,” Amber, 37, captioned two photos of their two kids, London, 7, and Lincoln, 5. “This dinosaur was discovered in FAITH, South Dakota by a woman named Sue. And he died by a River. Open your eyes, and you will see signs all around you. We think just maybe, Riv is having the best time of his life in heaven with this.”

After the couple’s youngest son died on June 6, in an accidental drowning at the family’s home in Georgetown, Texas, life hasn’t been the same. “Getting back on the road and back into daily life without River has not been easy in the slightest,” Amber continued. “Every single thing reminds me of him, and all I can think about is how he would love exploring and seeing all that we are seeing. I see his name everywhere, I see little red-headed toddlers everywhere. I miss his silly personality and his bright light. I see his face in our other kiddos.”

We just happened to be in the same city as the “biiiigggggggest T-Rex” ever found. We had to make a trip to see it in honor of River. This dinosaur was discovered in FAITH, South Dakota by a woman named Sue. And he died by a River ♥️. Open your eyes and you will see signs all around you. We think just maybe, Riv is having the best time of his life in Heaven with this 🦖. Getting back on the road and back into daily life without River has not been easy in the slightest. Every single thing reminds me of him, and all I can think about is how he would love exploring and seeing all that we are seeing. I see his name everywhere, I see little red-headed toddlers everywhere. I miss his silly personality and his bright light. I see his face in our other kiddos. I have this pit in my stomach constantly, because I’m trying to make life as normal as possible for our other 2 incredible kiddos, London and Lincoln, while hurting so bad inside. I look around at everyone else and wonder if anyone is going through something like we are. Dumb little things don’t matter anymore. My family does. My faith does. We’ve got this, because God’s got us ✝️. Thank you all for your continued support, prayers and love. It really does help us so much. #livelikeriv

Amber revealed she is trying to be brave for the sake of her kids. “I have this pit in my stomach constantly because I’m trying to make life as normal as possible for our other two incredible kiddos, London and Lincoln, while hurting so bad inside,” she wrote. “I look around at everyone else and wonder if anyone is going through something like we are. Dumb little things don’t matter anymore. My family does. My faith does. We’ve got this because God’s got us.”

She concluded the lengthy post by expressing her gratitude towards her family and friends. “Thank you all for your continued support, prayers and love. It really does help us so much. #LiveLikeRiv,” she wrote.

The 39-year-old Texas native commented, “It sure was a biggggggg T-Rex, and I bet it was nice.” Many other social media users had nothing but nice things to say to the pair. One person wrote, “You were meant to find this T-Rex … River is giving you signs he’s OK in heaven. I really believe that. Sending love to you all xx,” while another person echoed, “Doesn’t he work in mysterious ways! It’s like River sending you a hello and telling you he’s doing just fine!”

The “Backroad Song” crooner revealed what happened to his son in a heartbreaking post on Twitter in the beginning of June. “I have to deliver unthinkable news,” he wrote at the time. “We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith. Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life. Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father.”

On Wednesday, June 19, Granger and his wife revealed how they were coping during this difficult time. “We just wanted to come on here and talk to you guys and let you know that we’re seeing all your comments, and we’re getting all of your letters, and we’re receiving the outpouring of love that you guys have given us these past couple of weeks, and we just wanted to say thank you,” Amber said, while holding back tears. “It means a lot,” Granger added.

Nothing can prepare a mother to deliver this kind of news. We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith. Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Granger and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life. Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father. Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts. If there are words to say more, we cannot find them in this moment. Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this. . . In lieu of flowers or gifts, please send donations to Dell Children’s Medical Center in River’s name. The doctors, nurses and staff have been incredible.

The duo also informed fans that Granger would be going back on tour with the entire family, but would not be meeting fans backstage. “I don’t think that’s the best place for me to be right now,” he said. A. It’s gonna be strange if we have to talk about River, and B. It’s gonna be even stranger if we don’t talk about River. So, I think it’s best for all of us … until I get my head straight.”

We’re thinking of the Smith family during this difficult time.
