Cherishing every moment. Granger Smith’s wife, Amber, bravely opened up about how she’s coping with the painful loss of their son, River Kelly, in a new Instagram post showcasing her hair color change on Thursday, September 19. Amber explained how she’s “living in the moment” more than ever before, because we are only “promised today.”

“So this is such a trivial thing — hair color — but with going through what we’ve been through, I’ve realized how short life is. How unexpected life can be,” Amber, 37, began her heartfelt caption. The mother of three explained how she always wanted to dye her hair red, but never had “the guts” to make the change … that is, until now.

“Again, so trivial, but I’m living in the moment, now more than ever, and instead of waiting anymore to do things I’ve wanted to do, I’m doing them,” she continued. “This post isn’t really about hair color, it’s more about living for today.” The country star’s wife also had a word of encouragement for others, drawing attention to the importance of doing what makes us smile.

“If you want to do something (obviously something good and not harmful to others), do it! We are only promised today. Make the change, call the girl or guy, forgive that person, find the job that makes you happy, go skydiving, travel to an unknown place, talk to a stranger, go back to college, learn a language, or just color your hair #livelikeriv #todayisagift,” she concluded.

Back in June, Granger, 39, shared some crushing news with his followers, revealing that his son, River, 3, had tragically passed away. It was later confirmed that River’s cause of death was an accidental drowning at the crooner’s home in Georgetown, Texas.

“Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life,” he wrote at the time. “Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father.”

Not long ago, Amber took to Instagram and revealed that she looks at photos of their late son, River, to “feel closer to him,” noting how she thinks about him every single day.

We’re keeping the Smith family in our thoughts.
