Granger Smith Presents Donation to Children’s Medical Center in Texas in Honor of His Son River

Doing Good

It’s only been 20 days since the couple’s youngest son died on June 6 in an accidental drowning at the family’s home in Georgetown, Texas. However, the 39-year-old country star gave a lot of money — $218,791 — to the hospital where River received medical attention before his death.

Never Forget

“This is just the beginning,” the Texas native told the crowd in the courtyard, CBS Austin reported. “Let this be a small token of the gratitude that we’ve got for you guys. I’ll never ever forget it. The first thing we wanted to do was start giving back to Dell’s Children.”

Nothing but Love

Amber, 37, also spoke about how great the medical center was to them during this tough time. “I pray that nobody else ever has to go through what we’ve gone through, but if they do, I hope they come here because y’all were incredible,” she said.

Seeing Red

Granger and Amber both wore red River tribute T-shirts, which were sold online after the accident. The sales will help other kids in the future and all proceeds go directly to the Dell Children’s Medical Center. So, what is the meaning behind the apparel? The “shirt has a Yee Yee Excavator on it (Riv’s favorite thing to do was watch excavators scoop up dirt) and is red — Riv’s favorite color,” the description reads.

Thank You

The “Backroad Song” crooner was so appreciative of all the work the hospital did to help his son. “We watched you through our eyes, through our grieving eyes, in the worst of times, we watched you speak to our little boy like he heard you, and we were hearing it,” he said. “You were speaking to us and it mattered.”

Back on the Road

On Sunday, June 23, Granger returned to the stage for the first time since the incident at the County LakeShake Festival in Chicago. The handsome hunk also debuted a brand new tattoo with his late son’s name on his forearm.

Fam Forever

On June 19, Granger announced he would be going back on the road in a YouTube video. “I’m still going to do music,” he said. “In fact, I’m going to go back on tour next week, and I’m going to bring them [wife Amber, daughter London, 7, and son Lincoln, 5] with me.”

Not the Right Time

However, the BMI award winner revealed he would not meeting fans backstage. “I don’t think that’s the best place for me to be right now,” he said. “A. It’s gonna be strange if we have to talk about River, and B. It’s gonna be even stranger if we don’t talk about River. So, I think it’s best for all of us … until I get my head straight.”

Trying to Move on

Amber revealed in a heartfelt message that she is trying to be the best parent possible for her kids. “I have this pit in my stomach constantly because I’m trying to make life as normal as possible for our other two incredible kiddos, London and Lincoln, while hurting so bad inside,” she wrote on social media. “I look around at everyone else and wonder if anyone is going through something like we are. Dumb little things don’t matter anymore. My family does. My faith does. We’ve got this because God’s got us.”
