Gigi Hadid Goes Off on Instagram After Receiving Backlash Over Mykonos Robbery: ‘I Work My Ass Off’
After Gigi Hadid revealed she was robbed while she was on vacation in Mykonos, Greece, the model went off on social media users after she received some backlash from her recent post.
“Let me make this clear for everyone below who thinks I don’t deserve to have an opinion on my experience and warn people of this,” the 24-year-old began on Tuesday, August 13. “I was robbed along with more than 30 houses that night, some to gunpoint. It was not possible to contact any form of law enforcement except through my local security who happened to have a contact. That is a privilege that most people traveling there wouldn’t have.”
She continued, “If something happens while the police station is closed, there is nothing that can be done to protect yourself, and when the station does open, it doesn’t seem as though their training and resources are in line with keeping people safe or keeping up with the amount of crime that is happening on a nightly basis there. (I am speaking of the island specifically only because it’s where I experienced this.) This is not information that is shared with people before they go.”
The model explained that she wouldn’t have traveled to the island had she been informed that crime was so prevalent there. “If I’d known it happened so much, and there was not enough infrastructure to protect myself, I wouldn’t have gone,” she revealed. “So, this is my opinion based on actual events and you not liking that isn’t my problem.”
The blonde beauty ended the lengthy post by saying that just because she is a celebrity, it doesn’t mean that she doesn’t deserve some much-needed time off. “Lastly, I work my ass off and never do a trip like this for myself and friends, so if I want to post pictures of the trip after being robbed, I will do so,” she vented.
On Thursday, August 8, Gigi admitted that her getaway wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. “Mykonos film in,” she captioned a photo of herself on her account dedicated to disposable cameras. “PS(A). Don’t let Insta fool you. Got robbed. Never going back, LOL. Wouldn’t recommend. Spend your money elsewhere.”
While some of her followers were concerned about the California native, some were upset that she blamed Myknonos for her bad experience. One person wrote, “Imagine being this bloody rich and famous, visiting one of the most famous islands in the world and not getting proper security to guard your house then getting robbed, (which is honestly sad and unfortunate) and then using your impact to slander a whole island a whole country. You can get robbed literally everywhere,” while another echoed, “People get robbed in NYC, too. Is she never going there either?”
You tell ‘em, girl!
