Heartbreak isn’t easy. Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have called it quits after it was revealed they were “spending time apart.” The couple’s split was announced to the world on Jan. 3 and now, a source exclusively tells In Touch how the singer is coping with their most recent breakup.

“After arguing for months Gigi and Zayn have decided to call time on their relationship,” the insider close to the pair tells In Touch exclusively. “He’s not in a great place right now.”

Fans started speculating they had parted ways because Zayn, 25, and Gigi, 23, haven’t posted a single picture together on social media since October. In Touch has since confirmed their split. The exes have reportedly been struggling to stay connected with their busy schedules as he’s been in the studio recording new music, while she’s also been focusing on building her brand.

“Gigi still has feelings for Zayn, but they’ve been barely spending any time together due to Gigi’s hectic modeling career,” the source revealed to In Touch exclusively. “She’s constantly traveling to glamorous locations for shoots and Zayn gets insecure when they’re not together.”

The former couple’s romance started in November 2015 and they split for the first time in March. Even though they decided to part ways then, their statements were nothing short of amicable.

“Gigi and I have an incredibly meaningful, loving, and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and a friend. She has such an incredible soul,” Zayn wrote in a personal tweet. “I’m grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time, we wish news could have come from us first. We love all. xZ.”

The model also took to social media with a message of her own. “Breakup statements often seem impersonal because there is really no way to put into words what two people experience together over a few years… not only in the relationship, but in life in general. I’m forever grateful for the love, time, and life lessons that Z and I shared,” Gigi wrote. “I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for. As for the future, whatever’s meant to be will always be. xG.” Maybe 2019 is the fresh start they both need.
