*Sigh* Fans Slam Prince William’s ‘Generic’ Birthday Message to Prince Harry: It’s ‘So Cold’
Here we go again. When the official Instagram account of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — a.k.a. Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton — posted a birthday message for Prince Harry, you’d think that would only elicit fond responses from their followers. Not so. The account posted a photo of the royal brothers laughing along with the caption, “Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duke of Sussex today! 🎂” on September 15, and not everyone was pleased with that birthday shout-out.
“Very formal greeting?” one person commented, seeming more bewildered than angry. But there were others who were more critical. “This message is so cold and not from the heart,” one person wrote. “I miss there [sic] close relationship,” another said. “He could’ve sent a more heartfelt message then this generic one. This is his only little brother,” someone else added.
Plenty of people also made sure to bring up Prince Harry’s wife, Duchess Meghan Markle, in the comments. “Lovely!!! But sad for Harry as [he’s] married to [a] witch,” one person wrote. Another said, “Too bad Meghan ripped their relationship to shreds.” Ouch.
However, the comments were not all bad. One person noted, “Diana would be proud of her princes, so nice to see the love.” Someone else wrote, “The bond between brothers is one of a kind 💚.” It’s true — Prince William and Prince Harry have been through a lot together over the years. And how do we know the older brother didn’t offer Prince Harry a more heartfelt message in person or some other way? Social media only says so much, after all.
Sadly, this is not the first time Prince William has been slammed for a message he shared to a family member on the account. Back in August, he and Duchess Kate got roasted for their birthday message to Prince Harry’s wife. The message read simply, “Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duchess of Sussex today! 🎈,” and people didn’t take kindly to that one, either. Fans were mostly unhappy that Duchess Meghan was not the focus of the photo. The royals seriously can’t win, can they?
