Brad Pitt Steps Out in Japan Following Maddox's Estranged Comments

After Brad Pitt’s oldest son, Maddox Jolie-Pitt, commented on their estranged relationship, the actor made his first public appearance at the Narita International Airport in Tokyo on Wednesday, September 11. However, it looked like Brad was in good spirits as he got off the plane and greeted excited fans who wanted to snap a photo with the handsome hunk. Hmm … maybe the 55-year-old is tuning out what the 18-year-old college kid said?

It was a surprise when Maddox opened up about his family drama in a video interview exclusively obtained by In Touch. When asked if the Fight Club alum — who was previously married to ex-wife Angelina Jolie — would make a trip to campus at the Yonsei University in Incheon, South Korea, Maddox replied, “Um, I don’t know about that … what’s happening.” The interviewer continued to ask Maddox about his famous father. “Whatever happens, happens,” Maddox commented on whether or not their relationship is over.

In August, Maddox’s mom, Angelina — who shares six kids with Brad: Maddox, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old twins, Vivienne and Knox — dropped off her son at college. “Maddox is leaving the tight-knit family nest and while there have been some tears, he’s super excited about starting his new journey,” a source previously told In Touch. “He told his siblings that they have to listen to Pax now, which they all laughed at. Pax probably took it the hardest, but he’s tough and doesn’t cry, all the other kids got teary-eyed. They’re going to miss their oldest brother, who’s always been kind and a very calming presence, even when he was little.”

After Angie and Brad called it quits in September 2016, things have been a bit rocky with some of his children including Maddox. In fact, Brad didn’t help Angelina move their son into his dorm in South Korea.

But it seems like Brad is back on track with most of his children after the former flames came to a custody agreement in December 2018. “Despite all the drama that’s going on, the kids are adapting well to their new lives thanks to Brad and Angelina’s amazing parenting skills,” an insider exclusively told In Touch.

“While the former couple enjoy doing different activities with the kids, they share the same family values and are raising them to be strong individuals,” the source added. “All the kids are close to Brad apart from Maddox who keeps his distance — he’s never really gotten over the whole flight incident and is so protective of his mom. Despite Brad’s attempts to make amends, their relationship sadly won’t ever be the same.”
