Brad Pitt ‘Removed’ His ‘Drinking Privileges’ Following Angelina Jolie Divorce and Joined Alcoholics Anonymous
Confessions. Brad Pitt got candid about his sobriety in a new interview and revealed that after his 2016 divorce from his ex-wife Angelina Jolie, he knew he needed to change his drinking habits. “I had taken things as far as I could take it, so I removed my drinking privileges,” he told The New York Times in an interview published on Wednesday, September 4.
The 55-year-old handsome hunk also told the outlet that after his relationship ended, he spent a year and a half in Alcoholics Anonymous. “You had all these men sitting around being open and honest in a way I have never heard,” he explained. “It was this safe space where there was little judgment, and therefore little judgment of yourself.” Luckily, the Fight Club alum could trust the men around him and was able to start over. “It was actually really freeing just to expose the ugly sides of yourself,” he admitted. “There’s great value in that.”
Brad and Angie — who share six kids: Maddox, 18, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old-twins Vivienne and Knox, both 11 — decided to call it quits in September 2016 after 11 years together. At the time, the Oklahoma native was committed to a new role in a movie called Ad Astra, but he was still dealing with the aftermath of the split. However, Brad didn’t want to talk about the past. “I had family stuff going on,” he said. “We’ll leave it at that.”
Did the Hollywood A-lister pour his feelings into the role? “The fact is, we all carry pain, grief and loss,” he explained. “We spend most of time hiding it, but it’s there, it’s in you. So, you open up those boxes.”
After the former flames reached a custody agreement in December 2018, it seems like things have gotten better for the family. “Brad is enjoying spending more time with the kids and things have been improving with the four younger kids,” a source told Us Weekly in June.
Brad is also ready for some romance in his life. The actor “has put himself back on the market, and for the first time in years, he’s having the time of his life,” a source told In Touch exclusively. “He suffered for years with Angie, and the aftermath of their breakup was brutal. Now, as their divorce comes to an end, he feels light. The sparkle is back in his eyes. He’s sober and looks better than he has in years, so he’s not having any problems finding dates.”
