He’s speaking out. Even though Maddox Jolie-Pitt grew up in the spotlight, his parents — Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie — tried to keep his life as private as possible, especially throughout their nasty custody battle and divorce process. But now that he’s 18 years old, Maddox seems ready to open up and share his point of view on his family drama. In a video interview exclusively obtained by In Touch, Maddox gave an update on his strained relationship with his dad.

When asked if he thinks the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star, 55, will visit him soon on campus at the Yonsei University in Incheon, South Korea, Maddox replied, “Um, I don’t know about that … what’s happening.”

The college freshman also commented on whether or not their relationship is over for good. “Whatever happens, happens,” he said.

As In Touch previously reported, Maddox was looking forward to leaving home and embarking on his new college adventure. “Maddox is leaving the tight-knit family nest and while there have been some tears, he’s super excited about starting this new journey,” an insider previously told In Touch. “He told his siblings that they have to listen to Pax now, which they all laughed at. Pax probably took it the hardest, but he’s tough and doesn’t cry, all the other kids got teary-eyed. They’re all going to miss their oldest brother, who’s always been kind and a very calming presence, even when he was little.”

Angelina, 44, and Brad share six children together —  Maddox, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. Angie adopted Maddox in 2002, which was before she started dating Brad in 2004, and Brad officially adopted Maddox in 2006. Brad helped raise Maddox, but their family dynamic changed after the alleged altercation that took place between them on a private plane back in 2016.

Since then, Maddox has had a strained relationship with his dad. So much so, that Brad did not go with Angie to South Korea to help Maddox settle in at his new school, missing out on the major milestone in Maddox’s life.

While Maddox and Brad’s relationship is still estranged, Brad’s coparenting relationship with the Maleficent actress has come a long way since they came to a custody agreement in December 2018. “Despite all the drama that’s gone on, the kids are adapting well to their new lives thanks to Brad and Angelina’s amazing parenting skills. While the former couple enjoy doing different activities with the kids, they share the same family values and are raising them to be strong individuals,” an insider exclusively revealed to In Touch. “All the kids are close to Brad apart from Maddox who keeps his distance — he’s never really gotten over the whole flight incident and is so protective of his mom. Despite Brad’s attempts to make amends, their relationship sadly won’t ever be the same.”
