Calm down, boomers. Billie Eilish is taking the heat after she admitted she wasn’t familiar with the popular rock band Van Halen on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The 17-year-old responded “Who?” when asked to name a song by the iconic group on the November 22 episode. Only now, however, are fans taking to Twitter to air their disbelief.

“Billie Eilish didn’t know who Van Halen was, I’m sobbing,” one fan wrote, while another said, “I don’t expect all teenagers to listen to Van Halen every day, but I do expect an established musician to have at least HEARD of one of the most famous and successful bands of all time.”

Although many people were outraged, several came to Billie’s defense as she wasn’t even born when the band was at their prime. Eddie Van Halen’s son, Wolfgang, who plays bass in the band, was even on her side.

“If you haven’t heard of @billieeilish, go check her out. She’s cool. If you haven’t heard of @VanHalen, go check them out. They’re cool too,” the 28-year-old tweeted on Monday, December 2. “Music is supposed to bring us together, not divide us. Listen to what you want and don’t shame others for not knowing what you like.”

Billie has been making waves in the music industry for her quick rise to fame at such a young age. She also has become known for her signature style of full-coverage tracksuits.

Despite being recognized for her oversized apparel, Billie said she might want to change things up when she turns 18. “I’m gonna be a woman. I wanna show my body,” she told Elle back in September. “What if I wanna make a video where I wanna look desirable? Not a porno! But I know it would be a huge thing,” she complained about the double standard. “I know people will say, ‘I’ve lost all respect for her.’”

The pop star previously opened up about her struggles with body dysmorphia. “I was always worried about my appearance. That was the peak of my body dysmorphia. I couldn’t look in the mirror at all,” she told Rolling Stone in July. It seems like the young beauty has come a long way. Maybe a Van Halen and Billie crossover is in our future.
