At this point, 90 Day Fiancé star Nicole Nafziger is pretty much an expert at shutting down online hate. But when she asked fans to “roast” her on Monday, June 3, some of the responses were straight up vicious. Luckily, it also gave the 25-year-old mom a chance to debunk some of the crazy theories her followers had as well as shut down some of their other complaints. But when one fan of the TLC show called her “desperate and pathetic,” things went a little too far. Check out the gallery below to see the full story — and Nicole’s classy clapback.

On-Screen Romance

Though Nicole and her fiancé, Azan Tefou (a.k.a. Hassan M’Raouni), are an IRL couple, fans mostly see them together on a TV show where editing can distort our perception of them.

In the past, Nicole has done her best to remind audiences of this fact, breaking down that what they see both on-screen and on social media isn’t always representative of what the reality of her situation is like.

Setting the Record Straight

“Y’all only see a TV show that is about my ROMANTIC life, not my ENTIRE life,” she told fans in an Instagram Story on May 15. In the post, she addressed all kinds of claims about her personal life and relationship — including accusations that she is “delusional.”

“I am not delusional. I am not ‘mental.’ Yes, I am all here,” she shared. “Crazy as it seems, Azan loves me just as much as I love him. Yes, I know I am worthy to be loved by someone who treats me well, and Azan is that man.”

“Y’all DO NOT know Azan at all like I or his family do,” she continued. “The only people who will ‘finally open their eyes’ is y’all once y’all see our journey continued on YouTube.”

She also addressed concerns about her 5-year-old daughter. “[90 Day Fiancé] does not show how I am as a mother. … May is well taken care of and very happy.”

“Yes, I took MY DAUGHTER to another country, and she was well protected,” she told her followers. “I [now] have known Azan for THREE-AND-A-HALF YEARS. Azan is not a ‘stranger.'”

Nicole has shared before that May’s biological dad isn’t in the picture. For all intents and purposes, Azan is May’s dad — and she even calls him “daddy.”

The Real Deal

But some fans still don’t understand that. And when Nicole posted a photo of herself on Monday, June 3, inviting fans to air their complaints and “get it aaaaall out,” she got more than a few responses.

Defending Her Love

In one interaction, she stood up for herself when it came to letting May call Azan “daddy,” explaining the nature of their relationship. But in another, she had to face a fan who called her “pathetic.”

“OK, it’s real love,” wrote one fan, as if giving the star the benefit of the doubt. “Do you like the way [the show is] portraying you, then? If it’s real love, how they are not showing us that?”

“Your story is nothing like the others,” they continued. “Why are they painting you in such a bad light then if we are all wrong? The world is pretty concerned about you because of what we see.”

“They are making you look desperate and pathetic,” they finished. “If there’s more to the story than what we see, you need to tell them to cut the bulls–t. You are forever going to be bullied and hated if you can’t redeem yourself.”

Nicole wasn’t having that, though. In a patient explanation, she broke down exactly why what the fan suggested she do simply isn’t realistic. After all, it’s reality TV — not plain old reality.

“Why would they show real love when they already made me look delusional and stuff and people are just eating it up!” she asked the commenter. “Why give me a happy ending when they can keep dragging my journey like this???”

“My journey is far different than anyone else on the show,” she continued. “Now, [TLC has] spun two different shows [off] because my journey, relationship and season. Y’all still don’t see how our relationship has struggled because of cameras.”

A Different Path

“I don’t care if I get bullied or called delusional. I could give two s–ts, actually. The normal cast of 90 Day only started the show after having visa in hand and being together for a while. I met Azan in person with cameras around in a Muslim country where he respects his family so much. … He knows they will watch these episodes we make, so he has to be careful how he acts. Does any of this make sense?”

Always Filming

While other couples got to process all of their initial feelings and emotions in private, Nicole and Azan did it with eyes constantly on them — and those eyes belonged to people who were trying to show their story in the most dramatic, entertaining way possible.

The explanation was flawless — and pretty much shuts down any potential disagreement. No matter what, you can’t argue with the fact that Nicole knows her real life (and her real relationships!) better than anyone else.
