That’s not what he meant! 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days star Tarik stirred up a bit of controversy during the Season 2 tell-all earlier this week with a comment he made about his co-star Angela’s fiancé Michael, where he claimed that Michael’s home country of Nigeria is the “scam capital of the world.” But now, after facing backlash from Nigerian fans who felt that Tarik was saying that all Nigerians are scammers, Tarik is explaining himself.

“Now I will address this with you since you seem to [be] decent in your comment,” Tarik, 43, responded on Instagram. “First, Nigerians are the hardest working people in the world in my opinion. But international scamming is a huge problem there. I’m not and never would say EVERY Nigerian is a scammer. That’s insane. Understand. I love Nigeria but scamming is a problem and everyone knows it. If someone said America is the mass shooting capital of the world, I’d agree. But I’m not a mass murderer. America is the gun violence capital of the world. America is the capital of many, many bad th ings. Fact. So I wasn’t saying EVERY Nigerian is a scammer. But you know it’s a huge problem.”

Tarik made the comment on the tell-all to Angela after they discussed the way Angela and Michael’s storyline left off. When Angela returned to the United States from her trip to visit Michael in Nigeria, she realized that her bank account had been wiped. She explained that she gave Michael her bank card to withdraw $300 from an ATM, but her bank’s customer service rep said that $300 had been withdrawn from her account at the ATM three separate times — so Angela accused Michael of stealing from her.

But during the tell-all, Angela helped clear Michael’s name and she explained that it was all just a big misunderstanding. “I have come to the conclusion that I don’t think Michael did [it],” Angela said, “because it was something to do with the ATM and my bank replaced my money immediately.”
