His loves his kids! When Ricky introduced himself earlier this season on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, he explained that he was a single father of two who had recently been married twice and was separated (but still legally married) to his second wife. But while any woman would be wary of a man with that much baggage, his fiancée Ximena seemed extremely understanding. In a never-before-seen clip that aired on the 90 Day Fiancé Live aftershow, fans got to watch the moment Ricky opened up to Ximena about his very difficult custody battle with his first ex-wife for his oldest daughter, Amber.
“I’ve been married twice before, I have two kids — one from each marriage,” the 33-year-old said in his confessional. “After the divorce process with my first wife, it was a year and a half [long] custody battle for my daughter Amber and my second ex helped me fight for custody. I think it’s time to mention to Ximena that I’m in debt for the rest of my life to my second wife.”
Ricky explained to Ximena, 27, that six years ago, he was in college and he didn’t have the money to hire a lawyer to fight for custody of Amber. Ricky’s ex and second wife loaned him $30,000 in order to pay a lawyer and Ricky said if it wasn’t for her, he wouldn’t have Amber.
“It’s hard to talk about,” Ricky said as he tried to hold back tears. At that point, Ricky got so emotional reliving that difficult time in his life that he had to step away from Ximena to collect himself.
“I remember the day the judge said, ‘I’m going to grant you full custody,’ Ricky said in his confessional as he started to cry. “And I was happy. I explained to Ximena these details to explain to Ximena the implications, the magnitude of why I am in debt [to] my ex.”
Ricky said that it was a hard time in his life, and even though Ricky’s second wife is his ex, he still feels like he owes her everything. “I don’t want you to think that I spend all my time thinking about my ex, but I need to respect that,” he told Ximena and, thankfully, she understood.
Ricky took to Instagram shortly after the footage aired to share a sweet photo of him and his youngest daughter and he shared a message that most parents can relate to. “Everything else does not matter,” he wrote in the caption.
