“Bodak Yellow” rapper Cardi B didn’t win either of the categories she was nominated for at the 2018 Grammys, but it looks like the 25-year-old still had a blast at the glitzy ceremony, bringing younger sister Hennessy Carolina as her date! If you don’t know Hennessy by now, you will soon. With more than 1.8 million Instagram followers, she’s a star in her own right.

And Cardi B (who was born Belcalis Almanzar) can thank her sibling for her now-famous nickname. “Her name is Hennessy, so everybody used to be like ‘Bacardi’ to me,” the rapper told Wendy Williams last year. “Then I shortened it to Cardi B, and the ‘B’ stands for whatever … depending on the day.” Fun fact: Hennessy's father was tipsy on his favorite libation when he came to the delivery room to meet her, and when he suggested the unique moniker, their mother loved it.

Hennessy, who often popped up alongside her famous sis on Love & Hip Hop: New York, is ready for the spotlight. (“I’m comfortable with it, yeah,” she told BET in September. “I like it actually.”) And along for the ride is Mel, her girlfriend of over a year. Hennessy previously revealed that she always imagined her future with a man, but couldn’t be happier in a same-sex relationship. For her part, Cardi B has defended her sister’s sexuality on Twitter.

“Love comes to you naturally,” Hennessy explained to BET. “Once you look for it, you choose the wrong person… Everything happens naturally, people come into your life when you’re ready. When it’s meant to be, it’s destined for it to happen, so you’re going to meet The One, one day.”

Now, this star-on-the-rise is just following her own impulses and intuition. “To be honest, I just do things based on, just, like, me,” she added. “I don’t really think about the reactions, but then sometimes it really hurts me when I’m just being myself and people are being, like, so mean about it. It’s like I’m not you. I’m not who you want me to be, I’m myself. Stop trying to change me.” We wouldn’t dream of it!
