Mackenzie and Angie have always been close.
But it seems that serious health issues have only brought them closer. Ever since Mackenzie’s mom was diagnosed in January 2018, she’s been keeping fans updated on the highs and lows of the fight.

Recently, they’ve had some lows.
On May 4, the mother-of-three asked her followers on Instagram to “please pray” for her mom. She also included a message from Angie that suggested things aren’t going well.

Angie was solemn.
In the message, which had also been shared to her own Instagram, she let fans know that she and her husband, Brad Douthit, had “received the results from [her] scans.”

Unfortunately, it wasn’t good news.
“I wish I could say that I’m in remission, or that the cancer has vanished. But instead this is what we were told. Basically the cancer has gone wild,” she wrote. “I have new tumors in my brain and the old ones are growing. The tumors in both my lungs are progressing and growing again. I have three tumors in my liver. It’s in my lymph nodes. And low and behold, it’s in my bones, my breast bone and both of my femurs.”

The family was “shocked.”
“I knew things were strange because I have to take headache medicine, Excedrin and Aleve, twice a day to stop the headaches and body pain I’ve been having. But I wouldn’t have ever guessed this,” she continued.

They shared the news with Mackenzie and the rest of the family.
“We met with our kids and parents to tell them,” Angie said. “We prayed diligently together. I pray that I can always have a sound mind and that I can continue speaking until God is finished with me. … God is not through with me yet!”

Angie is an inspiration.
After sharing her mom’s update on Instagram and Twitter, she had another message for her fans — one about how incredible her mom is. “My mom is in a lot of pain today. But [she] chose to drive to Arkansas to speak and spread love anyways, 💗” Mackenzie tweeted on May 4. “Why can’t I be more like her?”

Mackenzie’s still been struggling.
A day later, on May 5, she was still processing the news, and this time she seemed to have lost some of her optimism. “Up at 4:00 am because my mind is running and my chest is tight,” she tweeted.

She’s grateful for everyone’s support, though.
“Thank you everyone who has sent us love and prayers over the weekend for momma Angie,” she wrote on May 6. “I don’t understand why any human has to ever go through this. She will continue to spread love as long as she can. 💗 You guys are amazing!”

She thanked fans directly.
When they tweeted to share their prayers and well wishes for Angie, Mackenzie messaged them back. “Thank you so so much,” she wrote to one fan. “It truly means the world to know she has people praying for her.”

Now, her message is for her mom.
The star had a few words for the strong mama herself. Despite everything they’ve been through over the years — and how hard it is on everyone — she wanted to make sure Angie knew how she felt.

Mackenzie wanted to thank her.
“Gosh, I’ve been such a hot mess,” she admitted on Twitter on May 7, sharing a photo from her mom’s 50th birthday. “You are such an incredible human and have changed so many lives. Thank you for always loving me even though I’m a bit much to handle. God is not done with you.”

It’s a beautiful message.
And it’s all about being grateful for the people in your life and holding onto hope. Angie’s been sharing similar messages on Instagram. Though her cancer seems to only be getting worse, she’s finding the silver lining in things.

There’s always something to be thankful for.
“I look at all of this and I praise God! I’m still able to speak with cancer in my lower jaw! That’s incredible,” she shared on Instagram on May 8. “I always say, ‘The bigger the cancer, the bigger the miracle.’ I now fully realize when God heals me, it’s going to be a huge, incredible, enormous miracle.”

Mackenzie is glad they’re sharing Angie’s story.
Back in January 2019, she posted an inspirational message about what they’ve been through. “2018 was the hardest and one of the best years of my life,” she wrote. “It started out so rough. Finding out my mom had stage four cancer was devastating. … But since then I have watched my mom slowly change the world and her story isn’t over yet.”

Angie’s got more she still wants to do.
“We got to share her story, I got to travel and listen to her speak, I got my first tattoo,” Mackenzie shared. “She isn’t even scared herself, she gave it to God and is trusting in his plan.” We love that Angie is still fighting. We hope she gets to have another celebratory moment — like the time she rang the chemo bell — again soon.
