She’s a true warrior. Teen Mom alum Mackenzie McKee revealed that she continues to be blown away by her mother’s bravery every day in a message posted via Instagram. Angie Douthit has been fighting brain and lung cancer over the past year, but she still focuses on seeing the “beauty” in life. Mackenzie reflected on her hardships of 2018 and explained how she’s going to use those trials and tribulations to motivate her going forward. Scroll through the gallery for details.
“But since then I have watched my mom slowly change the world and her story isn’t over yet,” the MTV star wrote. “We got to share her story, I got to travel and listen to her speak, I got my first tattoo, I launched 3 new programs with my business partner @paige_ball05, #bodybymac has grown so much in 2018.”
Mackenzie said that she’s made some major strides, like paying her car off, buying her home, and giving her daughter “the birthday party of every little girl’s dream.” The former TM3 star also noted how she grew closer to God, became a better wife, and grew as a person.
The 24-year-old admitted that she spent several nights crying last year, and has been overcome with fear. “I always went straight to my mom in the middle of the night for help with horrible panic attacks. I hated to bother her when she is the one battling the cancer, but she is the one person I spent my life going to for help,” Mackenzie wrote.
“She isn’t even scared herself, she gave it to God and is trusting in his plan. I called off two shows this year because MENTALLY I was not prepared. That was so hard for me to do,” the reality star continued.
Angie recently gave an update after getting test results at the doctors. “They found a small 4mm spot in my brain. I’ll see the radiologist soon and he will most likely want to zap it with radiation,” she wrote on social media, before revealing they didn’t find any other new cancer in her body.
“I’m in much better shape than I was last year. I’ve put 10 pounds back on and I’m gaining strength daily. Praise God, the old is gone, the new is here! This new year is a blessing,” Angie added. “Choose to see the beauty this year. Enjoy life and be happy. You have so much to be thankful for.”
Mackenzie has been very open about sharing her mom’s story, and she revealed why her mother’s cancer diagnosis hit her particularly hard in a Teen Mom OG special episode, titled “Where Are They Now? Mackenzie McKee,” that aired in September 2018.
Mackenzie said her mom wasn’t supportive of her depression. “So I just started sending her horrible messages, telling her I can’t stand her and I hate her and I wish bad things would happen to her,” Mackenzie said.
