She’s a true warrior. Teen Mom alum Mackenzie McKee revealed that she continues to be blown away by her mother’s bravery every day in a message posted via Instagram. Angie Douthit has been fighting brain and lung cancer over the past year, but she still focuses on seeing the “beauty” in life. Mackenzie reflected on her hardships of 2018 and explained how she’s going to use those trials and tribulations to motivate her going forward. Scroll through the gallery for details.

Peaks And Pitfalls
“2018 was the hardest and one of the best years of my life,” Mackenzie began, alongside her collage of photos. “It started out so rough. Finding out my mom had stage four cancer was devastating.”

Spreading Positivity
“But since then I have watched my mom slowly change the world and her story isn’t over yet,” the MTV star wrote. “We got to share her story, I got to travel and listen to her speak, I got my first tattoo, I launched 3 new programs with my business partner @paige_ball05, #bodybymac has grown so much in 2018.”

Lessons Learned
Mackenzie said that she’s made some major strides, like paying her car off, buying her home, and giving her daughter “the birthday party of every little girl’s dream.” The former TM3 star also noted how she grew closer to God, became a better wife, and grew as a person.

Sharing Her Struggles
The 24-year-old admitted that she spent several nights crying last year, and has been overcome with fear. “I always went straight to my mom in the middle of the night for help with horrible panic attacks. I hated to bother her when she is the one battling the cancer, but she is the one person I spent my life going to for help,” Mackenzie wrote.

So Inspiring
“She isn’t even scared herself, she gave it to God and is trusting in his plan. I called off two shows this year because MENTALLY I was not prepared. That was so hard for me to do,” the reality star continued.

A Fresh Start
Mackenzie concluded her sweet message by saying that she’s ready for 2019. “Happy New Years everyone,” she added. “Go to @angiedouthit page and congratulate her for one year of her cancer battle.”

A Fresh Start
Angie recently gave an update after getting test results at the doctors. “They found a small 4mm spot in my brain. I’ll see the radiologist soon and he will most likely want to zap it with radiation,” she wrote on social media, before revealing they didn’t find any other new cancer in her body.

Great News
“I’m in much better shape than I was last year. I’ve put 10 pounds back on and I’m gaining strength daily. Praise God, the old is gone, the new is here! This new year is a blessing,” Angie added. “Choose to see the beauty this year. Enjoy life and be happy. You have so much to be thankful for.”

Opening Up
Mackenzie has been very open about sharing her mom’s story, and she revealed why her mother’s cancer diagnosis hit her particularly hard in a Teen Mom OG special episode, titled “Where Are They Now? Mackenzie McKee,” that aired in September 2018.

Getting Real
Mackenzie explained that her relationship with her mom had been on the rocks ever since she experienced postpartum depression after giving birth to her youngest son, Broncs, in 2016.

Mother-Daughter Tension
Mackenzie said her mom wasn’t supportive of her depression. “So I just started sending her horrible messages, telling her I can’t stand her and I hate her and I wish bad things would happen to her,” Mackenzie said.

Biggest Regret
Mackenzie was able to find the help she needed to get through her depression, but she still hadn’t apologized to her mom when they got the crushing diagnosis.

Heartbreaking
Angie was diagnosed with terminal Stage 4 cancer, and the average person only lives six to 12 months.

One year later, Angie is still continuing her fight against cancer.
