Maci Bookout Says ‘Naked and Afraid’ Is Going To “Suck” but She Won’t Quit After One Day
Get ready! Teen Mom fans are about to see a side of Maci Bookout they have never seen before. The 26-year-old MTV star will be appearing on an upcoming episode of Naked and Afraid. Maci will be testing out her survival skills on the celebrity edition of the hit Discovery show — and she recently opened up about her survival skills.
In a promo for her episode obtained by The Blast, the mother-of-three said, "I've been a fan of Naked and Afraid for years, and even though I may not be an expert, I've been camping multiple times a year my entire life." She added, "This challenge is something that I'm dying to do and I really, really want it."
The reality star is a self-proclaimed "bad-ass" and has been practicing building fires. "I'm pretty good at fire," she dished. She also said that being a teen mom will help her in the wilderness because her "motherly instincts" will kick in. "It's gonna suck, but I'm not gonna quit."
Previously, a source told The Ashley Reality Roundup that Maci hasn't been receiving any special treatment. "Maci spent a great deal of time training for the show before she left. She got to bring a few extra 'personal' items than the typical contestant on the show, but other than that, she didn't get a lot of special treatment."
In a clip of TMOG, Maci can be seen practicing her campfire skills with son Bentley, 9, who confessed he was worried about his mom appearing on the show. "I'm leaving for Nicaragua in a couple of days, what do you think of me actually doing it?" she asked. Bentley responded, "It's scary, sort of." He also revealed he did not think his mom could make it. "I'm kind of worried your partner might tap out." However, she quickly reassured her oldest child, adding, "I can survive without a man. I promise."
According to the insider, none of her MTV co-stars knew about her new show, but that it has zero effect on her Teen Mom paycheck. "Because this show has nothing to do with Maci's life as a teen parent, it was not a problem for her to do it," another source added. "It doesn't matter that it's not a Viacom-owned show."
For those unfamiliar with the show, Naked and Afraid pairs up one man and one woman who must work together to survive in the wilderness for 21 days — without food, water, or their clothes. The contestants are usually allowed to bring one personal item.
Recently, Maci has always been open about her struggles with PCOS. However, we don't think that will have any impact on her ability to test her limits in the wild. And if you think the show is scripted, think again. "That has to be choreographed because we're shooting two people walking to a spot," supervising producer Mathilde Bittner explained to Reality Blurred. "That's as much as we do. The rest of the time, they just have to figure out how to do it themselves."
She continued, "We don't give them sandwiches at the end of the day. They will ask for things — they ask for Snickers bars and cake and spray and whatever — but it's very much what you see." We know we'll be watching!
