It’s never easy to say goodbye. On Tuesday, March 5, Shannen Doherty posted a sweet tribute about her Beverly Hills, 90210 costar Luke Perry on Instagram just a day after he died.

“Yesterday morning I got a phone call that devastated me,” the 47-year-old captioned a selfie with Luke on social media. “I’m struggling with this loss and am having a hard time with my thoughts. But my heart goes out to his family and friends who were blessed by his light in their (and mine) lives. Processing this is impossible right now.”

Shannen famously played Luke’s love interest, Brenda Walsh, on the ‘90s hit show. Immediately, fans comforted the Charmed actress in the comments section. One person wrote, “Totally heartbroken. Watching 90210 on Hulu right now, Brenda and Dylan forever. Sending prayers,” while another echoed, “Brenda and Dylan showed me my first learning about love. So sad.” A third chimed in, writing, “Thinking of his family so much. Stay strong, Shannen.”

A day before Luke passed away, the Tennessee native was hopeful that the Riverdale star was going to be just fine. “I will not talk about how he’s doing because it’s between the two of us, but I love him,” she tearfully told Us Weekly at an event in Culver City, California, on Sunday, March 3. “He’s going to be great.”

Ian Ziering — who played Steve Sanders on the TV series — also took to Instagram to honor the late actor. “Dearest Luke, I will forever bask in the loving memories we’ve shared over the last 30 years,” he wrote. “May your journey forward be enriched by the magnificent souls who have passed before you, just like you have done here for those you leave behind. God please give him a seat close to you, he deserves it.”

The Ohio native passed away at the age of 52 on Monday, March 4, after he suffered a “massive” stroke, In Touch confirmed. “He was surrounded by his children, Jack and Sophie, fiancée Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, stepfather Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder and other close family and friends,” Luke’s rep, Arnold Robinson, said in a statement. “The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.”

Our hearts are with Shannen and the rest of his loved ones during this tough time.
