Whoops! Guess he was really excited about that win. Rami Malek apparently slipped and fell in the audience of the Dolby Theatre on Sunday, February 24, during the Oscars, In Touch can report. The fall occurred after he won the Oscar for best actor. The Los Angeles Times reported that there were rumors backstage that Rami had fallen off the stage, but house medics confirmed the actor only slipped and didn’t take a full-on tumble off the platform.

Rami, 37, took home the trophy for his portrayal of Queen’s frontman, Freddie Mercury. After he accepted the award, he apparently fell near his seat in the front row near his costar and girlfriend Lucy Boynton. Paramedics reportedly immediately rushed to his side, but it doesn’t sound like he sustained major injuries from the fall.

Later, Rami told reporters in the press room, “Being on that stage … I never thought this would happen in my life. The fact that I have this [trophy] in my hand right now is beyond … any expectation that myself or perhaps my family could have ever had. And I’ll just say that. I mean, this has been a tough battle and I think you all know about it, and the fact that I’m here celebrating with you is proof that a lot of things can be overcome, and that anything is possible. And tonight I’m celebrating with all of you. And anyone who has a dream, it can happen.”

The film Rami appeared in, Bohemian Rhapsody, faced quite a bit of controversy during awards season because of sexual assault allegations against director Bryan Singer. On February 1, Rami addressed concerns when he told the audience at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, “My heart goes out to anyone who has to live through anything like what I’ve heard and what is out there. It’s awful, it’s remarkable that this happens, I can appreciate so much what they’ve been through and how difficult this must be for them. In the light of the #MeToo era that this somehow seems to exist after that, it’s a horrible thing.”

But no matter what happens with that controversy, Rami took home an Oscar for his part in the movie — and hopefully, he didn’t take home too many bruises in addition to his award!
