He’s bouncing back! It’s been a rough couple of months for Pete Davidson ever since his highly-publicized relationship with Ariana Grande ended. On Dec. 3, the SNL comedian sat courtside with pals John Mulaney and Chloe Sevigny as he watched the NY Knicks take on the Washington Wizards. Earlier that day, Pete commented about his breakup with the singer on Instagram, but it still didn’t stop him from having a great night out with his friends. Before Pete attended the basketball game, he opened up about all of the negative criticism and online bullying he has received lately about his broken engagement with Ari. “I’ve kept my mouth shut. Never mentioned any names, never said a word about anyone or anything. I’m trying to understand how when something happens to a guy the whole entire world just trashes him without any facts or frame of reference. Especially in today’s climate where everyone loves to be offended and upset it truly is mind boggling. I’ve been getting online bullied and in public by people for 9 months,” he confessed to fans on Instagram.
“I’ve spoken about BPD and being suicidal publicly only in the hopes that it will help bring awareness and help kids like myself who don’t want to be on this earth. I just want you guys to know. No matter how hard the Internet or anyone tries to make me kill myself. I won’t. I’m upset I even have to say this. To all those holding me down and seeing this for what it is – I see you and I love you,” the comedian continued on Instagram.
Pete has been open about his mental health issues in the past. “I was sober for three months at one point and was like this f—g sucks,” he said on The Howard Stern Show in September. He then went on to explain that smoking weed helps with his mental and physical health issues.
Pete and Ariana have only talked about their relationship here and there on social media, but fans got more insight as to what really happened between the two. In Ariana’s “thank u, next” music video, in her “burn book” she wrote, “I love u always” next to his picture but then also, “Sry I dipped.” So, Ari broke up with him? Hmm.
In response to Pete’s open letter on social media, Ariana told her fans on Instagram, “I know u already know this but i feel like i need to remind my fans to please be gentler with others. I really don’t endorse anything but forgiveness and positivity. i care deeply about pete and his health.”
It’s no wonder the TV star is doing so well. A source told E! News that after his breakup with Ari, Pete is “doing fine” and “has a strong support system of family and friends around him that are keeping him laughing.”
Right after the couple split, Pete addressed it on SNL. “I know some of you are curious about the breakup, but the truth is, it’s nobody’s business and sometimes things just don’t work out, and that’s OK,” he said.
Unfortunately the talented pair never made it down the aisle, but earlier this year, Pete talked about their whirlwind romance. “The day I met her, I was like, ‘Hey, I’ll marry you tomorrow.’ She was calling my bluff. I sent her a picture [of engagement rings]. I was like, ‘Do you like any of these?’ She was like, ‘Those are my favorite ones,’ and I was like, ‘Sick,'” he told GQ.
Even though Pete is doing better now, he revealed to Variety earlier this year that he has spent most of his life dealing with mental health issues. He said, “I’ve been in and out of mental health facilities since I was 9.”
