The same day that Aaron Carter took to Instagram to throw some serious shade at his big brother, Nick Carter, the former Backstreet Boys singer has revealed he’s taken out a restraining order against his sibling. On Tuesday, September 17, the “That’s How I Beat Shaq” rapper was the first to share the news. Within the hour, Nick responded to the allegations, confirming the news. On Twitter, he did his best to explain himself, telling fans that he felt that it was the best decision for everyone.

“So my brother just got a restraining order against me. And I was just served lol,” Aaron, 31, tweeted first. “Take care. @nickcarter we’re done for life. … You should send a cease and desist while you’re at it too,” he continued. “I haven’t seen him in four years. And I don’t intend [to].” In response, Nick, 39, shared a message of his own. “After careful consideration, my sister Angel and I regret that we were required to seek a restraining order against our brother Aaaron today,” he said.

In the post, he continued, “In light of Aaron’s increasingly alarming behavior and his recent confession that he harbors thoughts and intentions of killing my pregnant wife and unborn child, we were left with no choices but to take every measure possible to protect ourselves and our family. We love our brother and truly hope he gets the proper treatment he needs before any harm comes to himself or anyone else.” To the tweet, he added the hashtags #mentalthealth, #guncontrolnow and #guncontrol.

Though Nick hasn’t responded to any of fans’ messages on the subject, Aaron has. He denied his brother’s accusations on Twitter, writing, “I am astounded at the accusations being made against me and I do not wish harm to anyone, especially my family.” He even accused his sibling of making the decision for less-than-genuine reasons. “This is obviously a chess game of some sort.”

“All I ask is for my family to leave me alone,” he continued. “This is blood. Not love. I will never be around you and I don’t want to be around you. I am the one who said I’m done, then you send me this!? OK. Stop trying to get me 5150’d before I file a harassment suit myself, Nick. I have the [money].” Sharing an old clip of the two brothers fighting, Aaron added, “LEAVE ME ALONE. FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. I’M BEGGING YOU. PLEASE. I haven’t even seen you guys, and, Nick, you bullied me my whole life. And tortured me as a child. And everyone knows it. IT’S BEEN PUBLIC. And now you’re scared of the truth. … I’ll be just fine without them. They need to leave me alone. Michael Jackson told me this was gonna happen and he was right.”
