Fans of My 600-lb Life were first introduced to Michael Dominguez in late 2017 and were shocked to learn that he weighed more than 300 pounds by the time he was 14 years old. The Arizona native grew up with a strict father, who was especially controlling when it came to food.
During his episode of the hit TLC show, Michael said, "I wanted to take all my fear and just eat, but he wouldn't let me, and the way I grew up, I couldn't show emotions." He continued, "Any emotion was a sign of weakness, so I didn't know how to deal with that. I just bottled up everything inside of me, and then when I felt any kind of pain, any kind of hurt, I ate because it made me feel good."
When Michael was only 10 years old, his father went to jail, so he felt comfortable eating whatever he wanted. By the time his father got out of prison, however, he tipped the scale at 300 pounds and was kicked out of his house because of it. By the time he graduated high school, he weighed more than 400 pounds. When he met his wife Roni in his mid-twenties, he weighed more than 500 pounds.
However, seven years after they started dating, Roni was fed up with his eating habits and she hated how he relied on her and their children Briana and DJ to take care of him. She nearly left him.
These days, however, Michael is down 300 pounds — from 632 pounds — and he and his wife are still happily married. Over Fourth of July 2017, Michael took to Facebook to post a photo of the two — and he looks amazing! He now has a second shot at life, and we couldn't be more proud of him.
TLC will be airing a new episode of my 600-Lb. Life on June 13 that showcases both Michael and Roni’s continued weight loss journey. In fact, Roni is considering getting her own surgery! To see what happens, be sure to tune in at 8 p.m. EST on TLC.
