Michelle Duggar's Hair Makeover Doesn't Go Well in This Throwback Clip

The struggle is real! It’s been several years since Michelle Duggar got a “fab makeover” on 19 Kids and Counting, but luckily for fans, we’re pulling it out of the vault for Flashback Friday. The matriarch is known for rocking her signature curls, but in this vintage clip: she ditches her usual ‘do for a straight and sleek look…and it’s safe to say she wasn’t living for it.

“We want to make Michelle’s 46th birthday a birthday to remember,” Jim Bob, 53, says in the 2013 clip. Jana revealed they were going to give her different clues at every location, but Michelle wasn’t psyched when they told her she was headed to the salon. “Her best friend Cindy from grade school was going to be surprising her there,” Jill explained. Michelle looked nervous when they started putting foils in her hair, cutting her locks, and applying makeup. “I’ve not had a totally different style,” she admitted. When they turned Michelle’s chair around, her expression was priceless.

“Oh wow! It’s definitely different,” the reality star said. When the ladies asked Michelle for her opinion, she confessed: “I’ll learn to love it.” Michelle was shocked they liked her hair straight and she later went home to show her family. Everyone had organized a surprise bash for her, but she ended up surprising them more with her new ‘do! “It looks really cute. I think she probably didn’t expect to have that much taken off, but by the end of the year her hair will grow out,” Jessa added. In the book Growing Up Duggar, it’s revealed why the girls like to keep their locks long.

“Our hairstyle is our choice and we choose longer hair based on our understanding of 1 Corinthians 11:14-15…while it is a shame for a man to have long hair, a woman’s hair is her glory,” the older sisters wrote in the book, according to E! News. “I know Jim Bob likes [my hair] long and I am trying to impress him — what he likes is what I want,” Michelle also revealed back in 2012. Just a few weeks ago, Michelle celebrated her 52nd birthday, but this time they skipped the salon trip. Good call!
