Matt Roloff Considers Running for State Senate: “It’s Something I’m Thinking About”
Dad, farm owner… senator? It sounds like Matt Roloff is ready to take on a new role! The Little People, Big World star revealed on this week's episode that an opportunity came up in his home state of Oregon.
"Some friend of mine — a legislator here — thinks I'll be a good candidate to run for state senator," Matt told TLC cameras. "It's something I'm thinking about. It's a big honor." He added, "I've dabbled in politics here and there and I'm passionate about some of the issues, but it's also a huge sacrifice. The commitment you can't take lightly."
Of course, Matt's ex-wife, Amy Roloff, wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea. She cautioned him that his DUI could come back to haunt him. "You've always fooled around with politics, but with politics you're past comes up," Amy said to him. "Matt talks about political office, I don't pretend that I can even keep up with him," she told cameras. "Obviously there's a lot of uncertainty with the farm and everything. This also affects me as well."
Recently, the former couple — who divorced after nearly 30 years together — had a discussion about possibly selling the farm. "I just want my own path away from the farm, away from Amy," Matt dished on a recent episode. "It's always going to be awkward."
Not to mention, if he leaves the farm, his girlfriend Caryn Chandler will be without a job. She's currently the family's farm manager. #Awk. Plus, she seemed apprehensive about it, too. "I know you can do it, and you can do it brilliantly," Caryn told Matt. "But it's about, 'Is that where I want to spend the time?'" Better think twice before you decide to run, Matt!
Little People, Big World airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on TLC.
