Matt Lauer Returns to Social Media in His Daughter’s TikTok Videos 1 Month After Divorce
Call it a comeback? Matt Lauer appeared on his daughter Romy Lauer’s TikTok page in two videos that were uploaded on Monday, October 7 — just one month after his divorce was finalized following his firing from the Today show amid a slew of sexual misconduct allegations.
In one clip, the 61-year-old former TV host appeared happy as he danced to Chance the Rapper’s song “Hot Shower.” In another, Lauer is eating a bowl of cereal while he lip-synchs to “Big Fun” from Heathers: The Musical with his kiddo.
However, Romy’s followers didn’t love seeing her dad back in action. One person wrote, “Hmmm … that’s where he ended up. I was wondering what happened after the Today show. Now, I know,” while another echoed, “Another new low, Matt!” A third person chimed in, writing, “Is it safe to be alone with him?” But some fans did stick up for the former news anchor and actually enjoyed seeing him spend time with his little girl. “That was cute,” one person commented, while a second wrote, “Love your dad!! Miss him!”
Since Lauer was fired from the NBC show in November 2017, he has kept a relatively low profile. In July, Lauer was spotted on a boat in the Hamptons — where he resides — with his kids. Lauer and his ex-wife Annette Roque officially signed their divorce papers in early September, In Touch confirmed at the time — over two years after the scandal first broke. Clearly, the accusations not only rocked Lauer’s world but also put a strain on his marriage. Lauer and Roque married in October 1998 and share three kids: Jack, 18, Romy, 16, and Thijs, 12.
Roque walked away with the Hamptons horse farm while her ex-husband will keep their land in New Zealand. The Amsterdam native also got a lump sum of $25 million in the settlement, according to Us Weekly. Additionally, the former flames agreed to joint custody.
Despite Lauer’s mistakes, it seems like Roque and Lauer are getting along just fine. The duo was spotted smiling and spending time together at the Hampton Classic Horse Show on August 28. “They spent the entire time together side by side, chatting, cheering on Romy, taking photos,” a source exclusively told In Touch. “Matt and Annette were together for hours.”
It seems like Roque and the children are in a better place post-scandal. “Annette and the kids virtually went into hiding to heal from the scandal and divorce. They’ve come out on the other side,” the insider added.
Time will tell if Matt decides to get back in the scene again.
