Will he step back into the spotlight? Matt Lauer is reportedly hoping to make his big TV comeback by the end of 2019. The disgraced TV host was fired from NBC in November 2017, after several women broke their silence to accuse him of “inappropriate sexual behavior.” Now, there is a chance that he could make his return on CNN.

“Jeff Zucker was once Matt’s boss at Today and the two are still very close,” a source revealed to RadarOnline about the potential opportunity. “Matt is one of the most talented broadcasters of all time and he knows he made mistakes, but he doesn’t really think it’s such a big deal.”

“Matt hopes to be back on TV by the end of the year, and it looks like CNN will be his new home,” the insider claimed about the 61-year-old journalist’s hopes for the future. “He can’t wait to start a new chapter and will remember those that stood by him.”

Adding fuel to the comeback rumors, Lauer did recently reemerge to celebrate Zucker’s birthday at the McKittrick Hotel in New York City over the weekend. According to PageSix, Lauer had a “great time” and “a lot of laughs” on April 7. It appears the two are still on good terms.

Zucker was once Lauer’s Today executive producer and he left NBC to produce Katie Couric’s syndicated talk show before becoming the current head of CNN. Despite the allegations made against Lauer, some people are still convinced that he’ll be able to survive the controversy and thrive once again.

“People said disgraced Brian Williams could never make a comeback, but his show is a big hit at 11 p.m. on MSNBC,” a source told RadarOnline, claiming, “Matt could do the same for CNN.” We’ll have to wait and see if the deal goes through.
