Nick Cannon Defends Mariah Carey After Her NYE Performance

Nick Cannon came out swinging when it was time to defend Mariah Carey‘s NYE performance.

The singer, 46, didn’t have her best night in Times Square on Dec. 31, 2016 when she was slated to sing during Dick Clark‘s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.

“You know me, I’m a conspiracy theorist. I think the government did that. They set her up,” he said during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “Anyone who knows about performing and having inner ear [microphones] knows things like that can go wrong on live television. I think she got a little flustered. But being the diva she is, she said, ‘I’m just going to walk around and pose for seven minutes.'”

The 36-year-old added, “Like Ryan Seacrest says, she can do no wrong. So she worked through it.”

Mariah previously told fans that she felt the production company was to blame for her disastrous time on stage.

“Listen, guys. They foiled me. Thus, it turned into an opportunity to humiliate me and all those who were excited to ring in the new year with me,” she revealed in a video before taking a hiatus from social media.

“I haven’t really addressed the situation of what happened on New Year’s Eve and in time, I will,” she continued. “But for now, I want everyone to know that I came to New Year’s Eve in New York in great spirits and was looking forward to a celebratory moment with the world. It’s a shame that we were put into the hands of a production team with technical issues that chose to capitalize on circumstances beyond our control.”
