Inside Kylie Jenner’s Very Calculated Disappearing Act (EXCLUSIVE)

While announcing the birth of her first child Stormi, Kylie Jenner revealed she kept her pregnancy a secret to avoid unnecessary stress. But that’s not the whole story.

The cosmetics mogul essentially disappeared overnight after discovering she was carrying boyfriend Travis Scott‘s child. “Kylie,” a friend tells In Touch, “made the decision early on in her pregnancy to cancel every appearance and event and just be home by herself.” But her choice to live like a recluse added intrigue to an already strange situation — especially since her 101 million Instagram followers are used to tagging along for the journey.

According to sources, most days the reality star had the luxury of sleeping in, binge-watching Stranger Things, and indulging in her favorite foods like chicken fingers, pancakes, and — as we saw in her video tribute — fries. Lots of fries!

Occasionally, the 20-year-old had a chance to practice her mom skills while babysitting for sister Kim Kardashian’s two older children, North, 4, and Saint, 2. Other times she would host her siblings for get-togethers in her Hidden Hills mansion.

But, one big reason for her disappearing act: Her changing figure. Kylie, who has admitted to feeling “insecure all the time,” hates her pregnancy weight gain. “She feels fat and frumpy,” another insider previously revealed, “and she is obsessed with looking her very best.” (A quick glance at her Instagram feed, where she posted pre-pregnancy photos of herself, confirms that.)

Although it was her choice to stay out of the spotlight, loved ones are concerned the brunette beauty’s social dry spell might actually hurt her. “They’re really worried about what staying in hiding for 10 months is going to do to her emotionally,” says the friend.

But Kylie kept her Snapchat fingers busy by designing Stormi’s entire nursery herself! “It’s all white with a lot of Lucite, including a Lucite crib,” the pal shares. “She has butterfly accents in there, too, but lots of very modern lines and modern furniture.” And though Kylie’s sisters are horrified that she refused to capitalize on her pregnancy through endorsements or paid photo shoots, the insider says Kylie is already thinking about her next business venture. “She’s been planning a line for newborns and toddlers,” says the insider. “Kylie’s a businesswoman.”
