‘Teen Mom 2’ Star Kailyn Lowry Explains How She Ended up Naming Her Son Lux Russell

After months of speculation, Kailyn Lowry finally has a name for her baby boy! Ever since she announced her pregnancy back in March, she started to affectionately call her third child “Baby Lo,” and she continued to do so even after she gave birth because she couldn’t decide on a name for her son. But now, the Teen Mom 2 star finally chose a name for her son and she did so in a pretty unceremonious way.

Kailyn revealed Baby Lo’s real name — Lux Russell. She made the announcement by ordering a custom blanket with his moniker on it. In a recent interview with The Ashley, Kail revealed how she ended up choosing her newborn son’s name. “It took me so long to name the baby because I was trying to work with [my ex] Chris [Lopez] to agree on the name,” she said. “But we just couldn’t agree. Until we ended things [between us] for good and I decided I would just pick something I loved and he agreed to the first name [we picked] prior to me deciding it would be the name for sure.”

“I finally decided on a name because it felt like I was going nowhere with Chris trying to decide,” she said, adding that the name Christian was another top contender. “Lux is different but not completely off-the-wall.”

Kail previously took to Snapchat to document her baby-naming adventure with her pal, Bone Estrada. They went to the hospital to fill out the form in order to officially name her baby, but she didn’t have a name in mind, so she went down the hallway reading off names off of plaques of donors hung in the hallway.

“Harry, John, Herman, Alan, Wallace, Maurice, Walton, James, that’s a no, Frederick is a no, Wayne, Edward, William, Robert, Tom,” she read. “All these names are so basic!”

The mom-of-three took all of her top picks and wrote them each down on a piece of paper and placed them all in a bag. She had a nurse at the desk shake the bag and pick out a name and that name is the one Kail chose for Baby Lo. “My top choice was picked,” Kail explained in a video clip. “Bone is pissed. She wanted to name him Benji and it didn’t get picked.” Fans, of course, took to Twitter to ask her what name was pulled out of the bag and Kail teased, “Getting it customized on a blanket and posting!”

Kail welcomed her third child, another boy, with her ex-boyfriend Chris Lopez on Aug. 5, 2017.
About a month later, rumors of a potential name started swirling after a Snapchat photo of Baby Lo was floating around with the name “Murphy Nixon” written in the caption, but the Teen Mom 2 star insisted that this isn’t the case. “That’s not his name. He still doesn’t have a name. Chris and I just can’t decide,” she told Radar Online at the time.

Previously on Twitter — even before she knew the baby’s gender — the blonde beauty polled her Twitter followers to find out their favorite monikers. She revealed some of the options that she has to choose from — she likes the names Leona, Murphy, Anastasia, and Karsyn for a girl and Nixon, Griffin, Ripken, and Silas for a boy — and she asked her followers to vote on their favorite ones. Karsyn won with 40 percent of the votes and Griffin won with 34 percent of the votes.

Kail also admitted she was having a difficult time coming up with a name because she didn’t want “anything popular or trendy.” Her sons — seven-year-old Isaac [from her relationship with Jo Rivera] and three-year-old Lincoln [from her relationship with Javi Marroquin] — have tried to help her come up with some names for their new sibling, but so far, none of them have stuck.

Since revealing that she decided on a name for her third-born, Kail exclusively told In Touch that she picked an unusual moniker for her baby boy. “It’s definitely different. But I wouldn’t say it’s weird or anything like that,” she explained. “You probably just wouldn’t have heard it before.”
