It looks like Jim Edmonds is ready to take a step back from the drama. One day after his wife, Meghan King Edmonds, shared her side of the story in a blog post titled “Broken,” he’s expressing regret over the way his split has publicly played out. In a statement shared with Us Weekly on Wednesday, October 30, the former Real Housewives of Orange County star lamented the loss of his marriage. Admitting that he still has love for his ex, promised to do his best to put their feud behind him.

“After what has been one of the most emotionally exhausting sleepless five days of my life resulting from a combination of anger, embarrassment, trying to understand, sadness to simply flat, I would like to make this statement,” Jim, 49, told Us. “The last couple years have been rough on my wife and me for many reasons. Marriage is difficult but add three small children under three, two adolescent children, two adult children, building a house and two busy, hard-working spouses and the stress of living our lives in the public eye. At times, we are exhausted and feel our life has become one of distrust, kids, work, house, sleep and repeat.”

He continued, “It saddens me tremendously that my wife is hurt. After having a few days to digest the situation, I realize that something that occurred in a split second spiraled out of control with no way to stop it. We were both separately surprised to find out that the media had received details of our private situation without our knowledge. We both carry an extremely large load and most of our issues could have been worked out if we had more more time for us. With our busy careers and the addition of our son’s medical needs, we were lacking quality time together.”

The former pro athlete cited the couple’s busy schedules as part of the problem in their declining marriage, lamenting that they didn’t have the time to focus on each other. Now, however, he’s ready to take a step back from the spotlight. “I’m removing myself and all of my family from this unnecessary publicity that I obviously have never quite enjoyed,” he said. “I have way too much love for my wife and kids for this to happen and it’s time for us to get back to the private life we used to live. Meghan is a truly special woman who my kids are so fortunate to have as their mother.”

Jim shared that he is “hoping for some peace, normalcy, and the ability to move forward in a healthy, happy direction for every single person involved.” He had just a few final words: “I love my family and will make it right again.”

Though the star’s statement didn’t address his wife’s claims that he’d had inappropriate relationships with their babysitters, he previously denied having an affair with the family’s nanny. “It’s one thing to be accused of something. It’s another thing to be so negligent and so careless and ruin the lives of innocent young people. I did not sleep with our nanny,” he shared on October 28. “For someone to accuse me of sleeping with her is not only wrong, it’s disgusting and irresponsible.”
