Just days after former Real Housewives of Orange County alum Jim Edmonds filed for divorce from his wife, Meghan King Edmonds, after she accused him of having an affair with the family’s nanny, the former athlete is finally speaking out. Though Us Weekly reports that both he and the nanny had privately denied any affair happened, on Monday, October 28, he took to Instagram to slam those claims publicly. While calling the allegations “disgusting and irresponsible,” the reality show star seemingly lashed out at both his soon-to-be ex-wife as well as anyone else who’d believed the claims.

Sharing a 2002 issue of the magazine Sporting News where he was featured on the cover with the words “Imagine How This Feels,” Jim, 49, grabbed fans attentions with the caption. “** BREAKING NEWS *,”  he wrote, addressing the gossip. “It’s one thing to be accused of something. It’s another thing to be so negligent and so careless and ruin the lives of innocent young people. I did not sleep with our nanny.”

Further explaining, he told fans, “She’s not just a nanny; she is someone that we brought into our house and promised to protect and look after while she was in our home. We have been treating and raising this young girl like she is our own child! For someone to accuse me of sleeping with her is not only wrong, it’s disgusting and irresponsible. Just because I am an athlete, and I was portrayed as a bad person on Bravo TV, [it] doesn’t mean I don’t have a clue what life is all about.”

The star further defended himself by insisting that he never would’ve been inappropriate with such a “young girl” that he and Meghan, 35, employed. “We made a promise to that young girl’s mom that we would take care of her and make sure that she was safe while she was in our hands,” he wrote. “I will not sit here and take this bulls–t without fighting back. Just because you’re extremely witty and intelligent and know how to play the Instagram game, [that] doesn’t give you the right to use that platform to wrongfully accuse. Not only is it irresponsible, it is dangerous and puts my family in harm’s way.”

Seemingly referencing his past denials regarding cheating allegations, he finished, “We all make mistakes. This is not one of those times. My heart is broken for everyone involved. If you get anything out of this post, get the truth.”

In June, the retired baseball player addressed other accusations that he’d had an affair. Though he denied those as well, he did blame himself for the fact that the rumors existed. “I engaged in an inappropriate conversation with this person. At no time was there any type of relationship or physical contact,” he said. “Clearly, I made a very poor decision to expose myself and my family to this type of person. For this, I am truly sorry and sought forgiveness from my wife.” This time around, he’s not making any apologies.
