Despite what fans think, Jazz Jennings does not have a boyfriend. However, the I Am Jazz star is ready to start dating. Season 4 of the TLC reality show premieres tonight, Jan. 2, and it will tackle the typical struggles of a high school student — which includes relationships.

Jazz, who is transgender, revealed last year that she was pansexual — or not limited in sexual choice when it comes to gender identity — and while she previously reconnected with her boyfriend from fifth grade last season, this time around, she is dating a girl. “This is a good time to experiment with my sexuality,” the 17-year-old said in a promo video for the upcoming season. “The more I get to know her, the more I am attracted to her.”

Previously, Jazz opened up about the difficulties of dating as a transgender teen. “I have a bunch of transgender friends, but they’re all spread out across the country. None of them live in my state and certainly don’t go to my school. I’d love to meet a cute trans-boy who will be my true love, or possibly my soul mate,” she wrote for Harper’s Bazaar. “However, the dating pool is less than limited, because I’m the only ‘out’ transgender girl in my school. I feel that there are others lurking, some may be stealth, while others just aren’t ready to come out.”

She continued, “So, I’ve resigned myself to the fact that it will be awhile before I experience love. I’m okay. I’m a patient person. I can wait for my prince charming.” Last year, Jazz stepped out of her comfort zone and tried speed dating in the dark on the TLC series — and she made a match!

“It’s the first time in my entire life that a guy has asked for my number, so I’m really excited and I am hoping that he texts me,” she said at the time. “And maybe a relationship can work out between us.” Be sure to tune in to the premiere of I Am Jazz tonight at 10 p.m. EST on TLC.
