James Avery, “Fresh Prince”‘s Uncle Phil, Has Died at Age 65
Actor James Avery, best known for playing Will Smith's "Uncle Phil" on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, has died at 65 in Los Angeles.
Though his cause of death has not yet been stated, James had been in poor health over the last few years, relying on a cane and later a wheelchair. He had also recently had surgery.
Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Phil's son Carlton on the long-running hit sitcom, broke the news to fans on Twitter.

"He was like a second father to me," wrote the actor.
James also appeared in That '70s Show, playing Ashton Kutcher's character's commanding officer in the army, and in a 2012 episode of Grey's Anatomy.
