Teddy bears, chocolate and cards? The Duggars have a very special and unique way of celebrating Valentine’s Day, and as you may have guessed, it’s all about family. Michelle Duggar previously shared her thoughts on the “special event,” revealing what they typically do on February 14. Despite all the life changes that have happened over the last few years, the Counting On brood is still gathering for the special occasion and they now have a new tradition!

“We often celebrate Valentine’s Day as a family,” Michelle wrote in a 2014 blog post. “It’s a really special time with the whole family getting around the table and spending time together.” Michelle also gushed over how Jana Duggar threw a big banquet for the family just one year prior, with a beautiful spread on the table. “Everything was pink, red and white,” she said at the time.

The matriarch noted how the Duggars use the occasion as “our way of expressing our gratefulness and our love for each other.” In her blog, Michelle said she does go out on dates with Jim Bob for Valentine’s Day sometimes, but they’ve also helped throw banquets for single moms they know.

This year, several of the Duggar kids are married and some are new parents, so it made things a bit more tricky. However, they still managed to set up a gathering with most of the brood! A few days before Valentine’s Day 2019, several of the Duggar family members reunited to share some love.

“Our family is trying to start a new tradition for Valentine’s Day (which we celebrated a few days early),” Jana wrote via Instagram on February 12. “This year we each drew a name and wrote a meaningful note to that person about their character, what they truly mean to us and tried to express from our heart how much we genuinely love and care about them.”

“I think each of my family members would say, this by far was one of the most meaningful times we’ve had together as a family,” Jana continued. “There were many tears shed and much joyful laughter.” Noticeably missing from the recent festivities was Jill DuggarDerick Dillard and their two kids, however Jana explained their absence in the comment section of her post.

“With the size of our family, it’s hard to get everyone together at the same time,” Jana wrote. “It was kind of a last minute get together as well, so some already had prior commitments.” At least they made the best of it and most likely, several of the couples will celebrate on February 14 too!
