Call the cab because the Jersey Shore cast is reuniting in just a couple of weeks! Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino confirmed the exciting news on Instagram and captioned the now-deleted image, “Aug. 20th #roadtripreunion.” Can’t wait!
In honor of such a special occasion, we decided to take a [road] trip down memory lane and find out how TF the cast got their now infamous nicknames. Luckily for you, we did all the work. Happy #ThrowbackThursday, fist-pumpers!
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, 29
The now mother-of-two got her nickname while attending a middle school dance at age 13. During an appearance on The Jay Leno Show, the reality star said that her friends got the name from a character in a film. She said, “I was at [the] dance and I was the first one to kiss a boy out of my friends.” She added, “You know Save The Last Dance, the movie? Snookie[sic] was the DJ. So the Snookie character was very funny, very outgoing, and my friends just started calling me Snooki. It’s stuck ever since!” Unfortunately, with her 30th birthday right around the corner, she’s so over the moniker. During her E! True Hollywood Story, Snooks said, “Now I wish I could change it.” She added, “I miss my name ‘Nicole’ so much.” Girlfriend, it’s your brand! We love it.
Jenni “JWOWW” Farley, 31
Not surprisingly, this brunette babe got her nickname because when guys walk by her, they yell, “Wow!” This ultimately led to a coworker calling her, “Jenni Wow,” which later shortened to just “JWOWW.”
Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola, 30
In the MTV show’s opening, Sammi reveals that she’s “the sweetest b-tch you’ll ever meet.” So there you have it!
Deena “Blast in a Glass” Cortese, 30
Deena joined the cast on Season 3 and claimed she was a “blast in a glass” — aka the life of the party! In fact, there’s even an Urban Dictionary definition dedicated to the former reality star. It states, “Slang describing a person who is a good and all-around fun time. Origin: Jersey Shore.” LOL. She also claimed she was a “walking holiday,” which has the same meaning — and that she was, indeed!
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, 35
Mike was hanging out with his boys on the beach — shirtless, of course — when a girl walked by and admired his six-pack. She made a comment (while standing next to her not-so-thrilled boyfriend), which caught the attention of one of Mike’s friend’s. He exclaimed, “Looks like we’ve got a situation here!” And the rest, my friends, is history.
Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio, 37
Pauly began spinning tracks at just 16 with the hopes of becoming a DJ — the “D” stems from his last name. Years later, he’s had mediocre success in the biz, and in case you were wondering, yes I’ve seen him live. Yes, his hair is just as stiff in person.
Tune in to the reunion special of Jersey Shore airing Aug. 20 on E!
