My, how time flies. George Clooney turns 58 on May 6, though of course, he doesn’t look a day over 50. In honor of his birthday, we wanted to take a look back at how the actor evolved from the playboy everybody loved, to the loving husband to Amal Clooney and doting father of two that he is today. Early Career

Early on in his career, George appeared on an episode of The Golden Girls, but his first major role was as a semi-regular supporting player on Roseanne — the OG series.

ER

It wasn’t until he landed a role on the NBC medical drama ER from 1994 to 1999 that his career really took off. Before long, George was a household name.

Earning His Rep

He also started earning a reputation for being quite the eligible bachelor in Hollywood. He first married actress Talia Balsam in 1989, but they divorced in 1993.

On Marriage

He told Esquire in 2014 that when it came to marriage, “I haven’t had aspirations in that way, ever. I was married in 1989. I wasn’t very good at it. I was quoted as saying I’ll never get married again pretty much right after I got divorced and then I’ve never talked about it since.”

Never Settle

Heck, the guy was a two-time People magazine Sexiest Man Alive winner and noted bachelor for many, many years. A lot of people thought the hunky actor would never settle down.

Diversifying

George started taking on additional movie roles and became more sought after in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He got into directing and won an Oscar for his role in Syriana.

Getting Involved

Lucky George aged like a fine wine and continued to wow Hollywood with his talent. He also took on a bunch of humanitarian work and got more involved in political causes.

Meeting

Then something happened that would fundamentally change George’s image: he met Amal.

Hitting It Off

The couple met through a friend at the actor’s Lake Como home in July of 2013, according to Town&Country. They hit it off but didn’t officially go on their first date until October. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Love and Marriage

The couple became engaged on April 28, 2014. They were married on September 27, 2014, and George’s status as one of the most sought-after bachelors in Hollywood — if not the world — finally ended.

New Parents

In January 2017, In Touch confirmed that George and Amal were expecting twins — a boy and a girl. On June 6, 2017, the couple welcomed their first and only children, Ella and Alexander.

These days, George keeps pretty busy being a father to his twins, tending to his marriage with Amal, and continuing his humanitarian work. Do you think he expected all of this when he first hit the scene as a Hollywood heartthrob all those years ago? We certainly didn’t! Happy birthday, George!
