What’s going on here? During her 10-day tour of South Africa with Prince Harry and their son, baby Archie, Duchess Meghan (née Markle) was spotted not wearing her engagement ring. Uh oh! Do royal family fans have any reason to be worried? The missing ring was particularly notable during her appearances in Cape Town and Monwabisi Beach, Us Weekly reported. However, it turns out she had a very good reason for keeping the beautiful piece of jewelry at home.

Duchess Meghan, 38, was photographed wearing a dainty gold ring with a green stone by jewelry designer Jennifer Myer and her Welsch gold wedding band — which was given to her by Queen Elizabeth, Us noted. A source told the outlet she ultimately decided to leave her engagement ring behind to keep things “low key” during the trip.

The Duchess of Sussex was also spotted not wearing her ring back in March 2019. She stepped out to celebrate England’s Commonwealth Day in London, and eagle-eyed fans quickly noted that she wasn’t rocking the beautiful band. There was no explanation given for why she decided to go sans ring on that occasion, although she was quite pregnant with Archie at the time, and it’s possible that her hands were just swollen.

So, is there any reason to worry that something could be amiss between the Duchess and her royal husband? Well, they seem pretty lovey-dovey in photos from their trip to Africa, so it seems like all is well with the couple. This might just be a case of the former Suits star being practical while traveling.

As for how the trip itself is going, the couple’s official Instagram page shared an update on September 24 from their time enjoying Heritage Day in Bo Kaap with the locals. They wrote, “The Duke and Duchess are so happy to have been invited to the festivities in Bo Kaap today, and were overwhelmed by the amazing welcome.” In the video they shared, it’s not totally clear what, if any, jewelry Duchess Meghan is wearing. But it’s very likely that she went without the ring during most of the festivities. Royal family watchers will just have to keep an eye out to see if she sporting it again in the near future!
